125 gr. Berry's plated in SR9c

I'm getting an SR9c this week and of course I'm going to want to shoot reloads IMMEDIATELY. Don't have any dedicated 9mm bullets but was comparing my 38/357 125 HP's to pics of the 124 HP for the 9's and they look nearly identical, save for .001 inch in the diameter. I've loaded a couple of dummy 9mm cases with the .357 inch 125's and the diameter of the loaded round after I taper crimp is well within specs, @.378-9. Think it's safe to use these with a starting load of Unique? These bullets are pretty soft, so I'm thinking they'll chamber and swage down OK, but wondered what you might have to say. I MAY even take your advice and do as you recommend. Thanks.

BTW, just on a lark I ran a couple of these 125's thru a .356 Lyman cast boolit die and the diameter was not appreciably reduced.

I for one would wait to have a proper sized bullet myself. Better safe than sorry,, (or hurt.)

I don't own a 9 but do load for the 40 and 45 and have used Berry's. Have you taken the barrel out of the gun and slipped one of the reloads in the chamber? Does it fit ok?

If it was me? I'd get the 9mm bullet and go from there. I really don't think the sky will fall if you proceed as you said :wink:

Appreciate the responses. I don't have the gun as of now but plan to drop the dummies I've made into the chamber to check first when I get it. I understand that Ruger bores have, in the past run a little larger in some chamberings so I plan to slug my barrel as I will shoot alloy also.

Most 9mm bores are larger than the nominal .355"; that's just a fact of life. Most that I've seen run .357-.358" ~ or larger. If your reloads will chamber and extract without issue, I see no reason why they wouldn't work. Especially with plated bullets, they should swage down to seal the bore just fine without any pressure spikes.

I would recommend that you go ahead and slug your bore first, to see what size it really is. It might be enlightening.

Call Berry and ask> If they say no order a 1000 124's. cheap and shoot good out of my SR9c. I've loaded and shot 357 mag, 44 mag in SRH and a Marlin 44 mag leveraction and now use them in my 9mm. both 115's and 124's.
I would go straight to the manufacturer with your question.

Ah, I'd given up on this thread and came back on a whim. Thanks for the additional interest. Shot the gun finally, 100 fmj factories and the 10 rounds of the Berry's 125 gr. 357 bullets in question. Had one mis-feed on round #14 in the 17 round mag on the second time around and I think it was my fault (a factory load). Otherwise this gun seems to work as advertised. Didn't shoot for accuracy, simply for function. The Berry's loads fed and shot fine with no apparent pressure probs. I know 10 rounds doesn't tell much, but ejection seemed to be in line with the factory loads. Gonna load a few more, but Mrs. Idaho Spud brought me home 4 more boxes of factory loads to shoot first. She works at a gun shop and gets a good discount, you see(!)....thanks again to you all for the advice.
