For those who are having problems mounting a scope on the new Ruger 10/22 TD, then getting it to fit in the carry bag, here's what I found that works.
Mounted my older Leupold Vari-X III 1.5-5x20 using the base included with the rifle, and a set of medium Burris Zee Rings. With the scope positioned so when the rifle is shouldered I get a full view through the scope, the front of the scope is just about even with front of the action. The action portion will return to the carry bag exactly as before the scope was mounted. Now I'm a big guy - a gorilla - so it works for me, snapping the rifle to my shoulder presents a perfect sight picture.
The factory open sights won't work with the base in place.
Any small scope of the 20mm objective diameter as the Bushnell Trophy 1-4x24mm or the Leupold VX-1 1-4x20mm should work fine, as long as the length is around 9". Drawback is that the Leupold VX-3 today costs more than the rifle. I haven't considered any of the small RF 3/4" tip-off scopes for optical reasons.
This new 10/22 TD is a nifty little rifle and deserves a good optic. Something tells me it's going to get a lot of use.
