My TD isn't returning to the same point of aim after take down and reassembly. Anywhere from 2 to 4 inches different each time. I've assembled, tightened the tensioning knob, then disassembled and tightened the ring 2 more turns then reassembled. Anyone using more tension than that. Accuracy is very good but wish POI was consistent.
Thanks, Bob

Have you cycled the bolt several times after reassembly like the manual states?

I do cycle the bolt per the instructions. The rifle went back to Ruger when I first got it because the tensioning ring wouldn't turn at all. They quickly fixed it and returned it. I think I'll try increasing the tension 1 click at a time for a couple more clicks.

Did you run the nut up tight until it stops with the barrel installed, remove the barrel, and then tighten 2 or more clicks? I went 4 clicks past where the nut stops and mine is good.

So far have only tried 2 clicks passed where the nut stops. It's definitely better now. I re-installed the base and used Loctite. That wasn't done the first time because I still wasn't sure what sight base to use. Went with the base that came with the rifle as it sits a little lower than the Leupold Rifleman base I tried. Was hoping to find one low enough to use when the scope is removed but the Leupold still doesn't allow full view. Anyway, back to shooting groups then taking the rifle apart and putting it back together and shooting some more. Groups are no longer 2 to 3 inches apart. Actually when I shot it last Tues. eve. the shadows were getting deep enough toward the end that any movement was probably more me than the rifle. Still I'm going to try tightening 1 more click. Didn't know these things were so much fun. Now I want a target model.

The base I bought is notched as you describe but still is a little too high to see the iron rear sight as adjusted to the load I'm using. I'll use it later on the target model as the ring spacing is farther apart and the scope I'll use is much longer than the one on my TD.
