10/22 Target

Wanted to try one of these out for a long time, but the local dealers that dictate what you can buy because of their selective-stocking made my purchase not possible.

So...Bought this second-hand, unfired, and paid pretty close to retail, just to get it.

As soon as I lose the scope and the rings, and the trigger, this should be a dandy little gun. :mrgreen:

Nice snag WAYNO,, I love mine,,,only thing I did was add a Volq. hammer and springs.
I've shot well over 200 squirrels with this rifle.

Very nice. I have the same but with the greenish gray laminate stock. I bought a used aluminum trigger assy and did the trigger work myself. pretty easy to do. like you want to do I got a good mount,rings and scope.Very accurate. Enjoy tour new Ruger..

The dealers in my area just never seem to stock the guns I would buy, so I usually do all my business from folks on this forum, or other on-line sources. Seems the guns that dealers wont stock because they don't think they would sell, certainly wont sell if the dealer wont stock them. I'm sure they have no idea just how much business they miss from folks like me.

The scope is a non-adjustable objective 3x9 Simmons, which is actually an okay (low-budget) scope, but my eyes are such that I use adjustable-objective scopes nearly exclusively. I know the AO feature is not designed to be a focusing feature, but it sure does work out that way, well, for me. I will replace it with an AO Leupold, Nikon, or Bushnell Elite. The rings are two-screw, and I've discovered thru a lot of experience that the lightly-built rings just don't hold tightly enough, even on a 10/22. Plus they are too high for a 40mm scope.

Lastly, even though the metal trigger group is superior to the plastic ones I've bought over the last few years, it still is not up to the standards a gun like this deserves. I've been using the complete trigger group assemblies from the likes of Volquartsen, and they are just what the doctor ordered. :mrgreen:

I've had the T10/22 for about a decade. Early on mounted a Tasco 6-24x40 AO target scope that was great out to 100 yards. Never actually shot for groups beyond that measured distance. Buddy stuck in an upgrade trigger group & a Harris bipod. 50 yard 25 shot groups into a ragged hole smaller than the size I could stick my thumb thru were common.

As you can see, it's a little bulky. While it handles fine on the bench, it's a bit clumsy off hand.

Recently reconfigured using a Bushnell TRS25 red dot without bipod; took 10th overall in Steel Challenge match first time out.

This handles far better. Haven't had the chance to use it off-range yet, nor check paper groups at 50-100 yards. The goal was for steel targets, which so far is perfect even with geezer eyes.

Wayno, great looking rifle. Looking forward to accuracy report as I have always been curious about a comparison between the Ruger Target rifle and one built with aftermarket parts.

Well, after a couple trips to the range with this gun, I gotta say I'm struggling with it. All of my other 10/22's shoot better than this one.

I'm still trying many different kinds of ammo, and I've yet to find the secret bullet. Ironically, the Federal Match-Target loads perform the poorest, with Blazer and Winchester bulk-white box performing the best.

I was critical of the scope that's on it, but I've not yet replaced it. That will be my next move.

I have the same rifle and ended up replacing the barrel with a Green Mountain. I have read that the factory barrel will shoot better if its set back and rechambered. Mine shoots a good variety of rounds well and the target stuff really well.

Over on rimfirecentral.com they report good accuracy improvements on any 10/22 barrel with a setback/rechamber job.

It seems Ruger uses the same loose-enough-to-feed-anything chamber in the Target model as any other model. Good luck.
