10/22-T or K10/22-T

Not much recent discussion about these.

All of a sudden I'm interested.

Is there a big, obvious improvement in accuracy?

I would assume the plastic trigger group has invaded this model too. If so, do they do something different with this trigger to make it acceptable on a target gun?

I have one of the older 10/22T's. It is claimed to have a "target" trigger but I could not feel a lot of difference from a standard. I sent my trigger group to Swampfox from the Rimfire Central forums for an upgrade and it is great now.

I too have an older KT and I believe the only difference in the trigger group was a lighter pull. Not certain of the exact numbers but believe it was 4.5'ish vs 8+. In also had my factory group re-worked. I got mine because I loved the stainless T barrel and have since had it re-worked as well and it is a mighty fine shooter.

My 10/22 is from 1995. I built it up with a Fajen stock, Midway SS bull barrel (back before the lawyers suggested they not put their names on stuff - I think its Frankfurt now), Leupold Vari-X II scope, and a Volqartsen hammer/trigger. This was, I believe, before Ruger started building a bull barreled Target Model 10/22.

Dime size groups at 50 yards.

BTW....I just put an inexpensive Clerke heavy barrel and a Hogue overmolded stock on a $110 pawn shop 10/22 and it is a joy to shoot.

In my experience with one each of the blue and stainless 10/22T, they are not much more accurate than the standard carbine... if any.

There is a difference in the hammer geometry, but it doesn't significantly improve the trigger pull.

Some of the better 10/22 'smiths would replace the 10/22T hammer with a properly stoned original style.

Bottom line, as many of those above have done, you can easily build a better shooting gun, than you will likely get with the 10/22T out of the box.

The T does respond well to a barrel set-back and re-chamber (I had both of mine done by Randy at www.ct-precision.com) but I find them too heavy for field use in my hands.

I do know I could easily build a shooter, but I was just wondering if Rugers out-of-the-box target model was worthwhile or a feeble attempt.

I think they are more fun to build myself than to just buy. Mine has a DSP stock that I hogged out for a Tactical Solutions .920 barrel and Power Custom trigger guts. I like it a lot. Its not heavy at all.

Wayno,I've had two of the T models.One shot great as it came from the factory.The other not so much.All of the guns that I've built up have shot better using the Green mountain barrels.Slow

I love my T model. I run a red dot for plinking and squirrels and never have an issue hitting what I aim at. Had it out Saturday and managed a few small groups that were touching at 50 yds when I did my part. It's really liking the Federal Automatch.

That said, I'm also currently building a custom for bench work that will ultimately cost nearly twice what I paid for the factory model. I want to leave the T as is. The old saying applies: "If it ain't broke....."
