10/22 Takedown Plastic Finishing

Good morning everyone…. Looking for the best surface prep solvent to use on 10/22 Takedown plastic before finishing. Guessing its Acetone or Lacquer Thinner, do not want to use the expensive Dura Coat cleaner. Any feedback will be appreciated.

I'd go with denatured alcohol... acetone and plastics don't often mix.

Contact your local napa or automotive paint store and check for a plastic prep kit. I work in a bodyshop and ours are made by ppg paint products. Most plastics car parts have a mold release agent on them. And the paint will not adhere properly if not cleaned. Use a scotchbrite pad to clean with. It will leave microscopic scratches that dull it up so paint will adhere to it
