10/22 problem

Ruger troops; I need some advice here. Have owned Rugers in various forms since about 1962. Got one of the first year 10/22s (a four digit serial #). Anyway I just acquired a TALO edition 10/22 International brand new. ordered a BX trigger, and am having trouble separating the stock from the action. There appears to be only one screw locking it together. unless you count the one in the forend cap. when the main screw is removed the action/bbl assembly will move a bit ,but seems to catch on something in the receiver area. It will move about 1/16". I have the safety centered. Nothing visible is in the way. I don't want to try to beat it out. Am I missing something? The BX website shows a different model and no problems. Just loosen the one screw & it pops apart, punch out two pins slip the old trigger group out &slip the new one in, replace the pins & you are done. I would really hate to send it back to Ruger for something mickey mouse. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Have you removed the end cap? You need to remove it and remove the action by lifting the muzzle end first. The trigger group catches on the bottom of the stock and it will not lift out first.

precision32; You nailed it!! Thank you so much. Had to tap the forend cap off. Popped right off, then came apart like it was supposed to. Strange. Not a word about it in any of the literature I got with the rifle. Ready to go shoot it. Got a nice little Bushnell 4X32 scope on a low mount. Looks nice. Adding a 1" leather GI 1907 sling. A classy little rifle!

While you have apart, put in a auto bolt release I put one in my International. Love the beautiful stock and put one in my 10/22 Target One finger release and put in a bolt buffer WE all love the bolt buffers here!!

Not everyone! :mrgreen: Using a soft buffer defeats a major design feature that slows and stops the bolt. I never run them.

we've had this discussion before. Stock is steel on steel. A buffer simply softens the blow It doesn't stop it! Bolt is under spring pressure!! Doesn't stop mine I realize you don't like them but many do

I was trying to decide on the auto bolt release. Think I will try it. Will have to think about the buffers.
