Hi folks, quick intro I'm Steve from Ontario just got back into shooting this year and bought two new 10/22's to kick things off. Finally got to shoot them this past weekend and had a tough time with FTE from both. One being a stainless TD the other the tactical model. Was using CCI mini mags and velositors and couldn't go through a ruger 10 shot mag without one or more jams from not ejecting the spent round properly. Their both new out of the box. Any suggestions?

Also re-reading my post, what I meant by any suggestions was is there an easy fix a regular guy can do to solve this problem himself without shipping them to be fixed?

Welcome to the forum...Did you clean and lube them beforehand? I just bought a new Mini 14 and it was loaded with cosmoline and everything was sticky, took a good cleaning for it to slick up. I doubt it's an ammo problem as CCI is really good stuff.

By 'new' I'm presuming you mean direct from the factory (dealer/distributor)... in that case, two first options and one is already taken care of and that was ammo.... CCI mini mags should not do that...

So, as mentioned above... clean and lube.... then I would put about 3-500 rounds through them before sending back....

If these are only new to you and used rifles... then that is a different route for sure.....

Two new guns doing the same thing is a nasty coincidence. As mentioned clean and lube both guns. I've never had an issue with mini-mags in my 12/22. Maybe a different ammo would be worth a try until they get broken in.

My 30+ yr old 10/22 will jam due to 3 reasons. 1. Gummy, dirty rotary magazine (replaced). 2. A certain brand of old (and cheap) ammo that we have will cause the gun to jam. 3. The 30 round aftermarket plastic clip that I have will always create a jam. It was cheap (bought many years ago) and never fed correctly. Try different ammo, clean both. Mine never ever jammed with standard Federal LR ammo and a clean rotary magazine.

My 1022 had the same problem when new. I was advised to keep shooting it, deal with it, and that it might just need to be cycled some to work properly. That was the case. After a hundred or so rounds the FTE issues stopped and it hasn't happened in the 3000 or so rounds since. Maybe I was lucky, I hope you have the same result.

You might benefit from an aftermarket extractor, which you can install yourself. Alternatively, you can remove the factory extractor, file a more aggressive angle on the hook, and reinstall it, which will do pretty much the same thing at zero cost and about the same labor.

Thanks for the advice guys. They are new as in out of the box. I contacted ruger and asked for advice and was told to send them to their Canadian warranty shop which is in another province. I'm going to try cleaning and firing off a bunch of ammo before I send them back if I can fix them myself I'll be a happy guy.

I have two new 10/22s as well, and have had problems with both. Emphasis on had. I polished the chambers and bolts of both, with 800 and then 1000 grit sandpaper. Dried thoroughly. Polished with Mothers aluminum polish. Lubricated with Dupont Teflon dry lube. I use CCI AR Tactical 22lr ammunition, and have not had a single FTF or FTE (more than 400 rounds in each rifle) since. YMMV...
