10-22 firing pin spring ?

Hi I am new to the forum. I disasembled my wifes 10-22 to clean it and did not notice the the firing pin spring is tapered. Not sure whitch way it goes in. looks like the taper goes twords the notch on the firing pin but ? I would like to get it back together so we can shoot this weekend. any help would be great.
