Bought my 10/22 in 1983. It has a zillion rounds thru it and has never malfunctions. At times it went years without cleaning, just gathering dust behind the seat of my pickup that I drove in a dusty oil field. It never failed me when I needed to dispatch a snake or critter: I just dusted it off and it always fired. Now I have more time and I shoot it several times a week, and clean it regularly. Because of old eyes, I put an XS Ghost Ring on it about a year ago, and just yesterday I shot one inch groups at 15 yards over the hood of my truck. As good as my 10/22 is, and as much fun as it is to work on, I was looking for an upgrade, and had decided on a Marlin 725. Went to Academy today and the did not have a 725, but they had 795s. Before he could hand me a 795 to look at, I noticed three 10/22s beside it on the rack, and one of them was taller than the other two. So asked to see it, and could not pass it up. It is a 10/22-22, and the Ruger site does not list it. They list a Lipsey K10/22-22: guess the blue version is a cheaper version for the Wal Marts and Academys. But I love and will report back after I get a scope, and let you know if it is as accurate as the Marlin.

Whats the barrel length? I originally thought it was a DSP, but that barrel looks like a 22" and not the 18.75" on the DSP. The box should have a model number on it and some of the guys here know more about them than I do and can give you all the details on it.

Bought a K22-22 at Wal-mart a few years ago. They were then made just for them. Got to looking close and it says Ruger rifle on the receiver. The newer ones have Ruger carbine just like the short barrel ones. Just thought I would pass that along. Lipsey's has them now on a special run just for them. But look on the receiver and it says Ruger carbine.

It is a 22 inch barrel. The receiver does not have "Carbine" stamped on it, only RUGER, Model 10/22, .22 LR Caliber and the serial number. The box shows model 10/22-22. It feels great to hold: with the extra weight and length it is just like a real rifle; definitely not a carbine. I think if Ruger put a ton of these on the market all of those carbine guys would have to have it as a companion to their carbines. Academy hadd the rifle for $239 and the Blue Carbine for $189.

There should also be a model number on the box, like 01785 for example. I'm pretty sure there is a number on every box.

It does sound like the walmart special but blued.

Looks a lot like the Sporter version Ruger used to sell. I have an old 10/22 Carbine model that's been a foolproof bullet launcher for a long time. Recently I installed a Volquartsen Trigger assembly on it. What a difference, about 2.5lb or slightly less trigger that feels like a specialized target rifle. Really tightened up the old rifle's groups. Damn near a tack driver at 100yds.
