No Sir, my first duty gun late 1960s was a model 19 4-in I had to pay $107 for and had countless thousands of round of ammo through it and S& W even rebuilt it for me for free, then I had it Metalifed SS by Ron Mahovsky in Reno,Pa. sold it to my partner in our first gun shop late 70s, brings back memories, thank you.....(y)(y)
Here is the Dan Wesson we built in Monson,Ma., back in that time, it also was Metalifed SS and the 19 4-in that Ron finished and polished it, I sold to Chuck my partner at the shop, looks like a model 66, love that Metalife, kept the Dan Wesson cause it shot way better than ANY Python we ever had, but today we carry a Ruger LCR x snubby in the .38 +P.....:cool::rolleyes:;)

Yeah, so popular in the day but wonder if the younger gens realize how useful & versatile the gun still is? Nothing to sell here but the idea that many very useful guns abound that may not be in the mainstream today & hoping the younger gens can recognize this. Just useful knowledge for them, that's all.

Are you Really trusting your life and more those you swore to protect to a project gun? I can only shake my head. Preplanned failures are your fault!

They once where, but currently they are antiques. More folks going forward will be concerned with the mag capacity of their Semiautomatics than will be concerned with what versiality a wheel gun once had. JMHO YMMV.
gunzo, be realistic. Just how many day shooters do you think are on the range honing their DA Revolver skills nowadays?
If you find 1 Senior Citizen for every dozen maybe twenty something blasting away with their Semiautomatic, you should consider yourself lucky. Get off the lifetime member line and travel to the day shooters paper pass KD Line. It's enlightening. Or just talk to the Range Officer. Reality, it's for folks that can't handle drugs!

Part of the point of this thread. I know what is consuming range time, auto's & think that bunch is missing out buy not knowing &/or using other platforms from time to time. Heck, revolver shooters were getting scarce 25 years ago. I used to attend about 7 USPSA shoots a month & my 45 D/A was always in my range bag in case there were enough shooters to have a revolver match. It rarely happened.
My wife used to shoot a few matches & insisted on a 1911 in 45, like most were using. She handled it rather well. That was then. Now she has Rheumatoid arthritis & can't rack the slide on any suitable self defense pistol that we've tried. Of course there was an answer,,,, a few double action revolvers scattered about the house for her use.
They are still viable.
All we were doing was discussing the 4" DA .357 revolvers. Dan didn't espouse the "home built" as appropriate for defensive purposes, just showed us one of the many variations as everyone else did. :)
Remember when those Old Timers used to tell you that those Double Action Revolvers were to complicated and not as reliable as their Single Actions? Why you would never get a DA out in time! Yet some folks still can draw and fire Single Action revolvers in record time. So those of us that cut our teeth on DA Revolvers will probably always have one or two hanging around. Just like folks that grew up with DA/SA Semiautomatics, will probably always have one or two hanging around. Wonder what is going to make striker fired semiautomatic pistol antiques?
