22/45 opinions

I'm expecting to get mother's approval of a suppressor for my new 10/22 Carbon rifle. I'm going to buy an RXD22Ti for it, which would of course also fit a Ruger 22/45 with threaded barrel.

So, I seek opinions of the 22/45 versus other similar pistols. So I might buy a pistol to use the same can ... Likes? Dislikes? 4.4 inch barrel vs 5.5 inch etc. Whatever ..

I have a Mark III with the "heavy" barrel, but it is not threaded, so no experience with it suppressed.

IMO, the Lite models just seem to balance better with the suppressor on them.

I don't know why, but mk 4 22/44 will not shoot near as well as my MK2s. Maybe it's a lifetime of shooting the MK2 (not 22/45) but I shoot both of them I have way better than my 22/45. Never owned a suppressor so can't comment on that.

One of my absolute favorites to shoot!! I can fart louder than this thing with a can........... :cool:
Balance is perfect. I put a Tandemkross trigger in it and it shoots effortlessly and accurately.
For the 10-22, you will want subsonic ammo, or you will get that ballistic "crack", with the lite
a majority of the 1150-1200 fps ammo will stay quiet, but I shoot subs in all my suppressed stuff.
You will be very happy with a suppressed 22!!

Every time I shoot it, I hear a little girl giggling!??!?......then I realize it's ME:rolleyes:

I don't have a MK4 but I've been well satisfied with 22/45 MK 2 & happy with MK 3 (at least after break-in).
My MK 3 4" went through an initial period of questionable accuracy until it finally 'came around' at 300-500 rounds. It's now a solid 3-4MOA @ 100 yards with a dot optic and Form 1 suppressor. It seems everyone who shoots it wants to buy it but that's not happening.

I like the lites but I don't like them $200 worth, is essentially the way I look at it.
I have a couple of 22/45s, one is threaded and I run my sparrow on it. Its accurate enough but it is hard for me to concentrate when I'm having so much fun with the can. I frankly don't notice the weight difference.

You will get several opinions & thoughts. All good for discussion. HOWEVER,, only YOU as the end user can determine which model will FIT YOU and your needs/desires.
Only YOU can lay hands on to see how YOU like it.

As for the various features & such,, that will become your thought process upon handling one or three.

I am awaiting the ATF to give me the OK to pick up my suppressor for my 22/45 (MK III converted to a MK II). Let you know how it works when it happens.

Took a week for Silencer Co to get my fingerprint cards ... then an hour or so checking forms and new forms etc ... job security for government bots

so now I am back to the waiting part - reminds me of my days in service to the country: hurry up and wait!

O well, nothing much else to do anyway. Life gets T-jus don't it?

The only time I've shot a 22/45 was at my indoor range. The man who owned it was trying to train himself to shoot left-handed after losing his right eye to an accident. I let him shoot my Standard for a mag while I shot his 22/45.

I found his pistol equalled my own for accuracy. But I learned that I don't like very light weight pistols, and I don't like 1911 type vertical grips.

The Aluminum framed mk4 Ruger sent me to replace my 1st mk3 went down the road quickly. Partially because of the light weight, and partially because of the obnoxious safety lever that is backwards of what it should be. Ruger got the SR-22 right. JMB got it WRONG on the 1911. JMO.

I’m a Lite shooter.
One is for my wife.
Accurate and fun to plink with when visiting the range.
I am looking at the Sparrow as well. Based on comments, would be fun with my 10/22’s, as well as the 22/45’s.

i held off on the 22/45 for a good while , then one in great shape and for a really fair price popped up in a local pawn and i needed to scratch a itch so it came home , its a MkIII , and i have to say am very fond of it , i have never had a ruger i did not like except the Wrangler which that experience tells like a saga in a great american novel , or maybe a Dean Koontz book to be more accurate so i will not heavy foot your thread by getting into it , but my mk III is a very easy shooter to get good groups with , an not attest to others

Mk3 5” and Mk4 4” owner, both are 22/45.

If suppression is the goal certainly get the MK IV . Your can will put a bunch of crud in the chamber and foul up the slide etc. , and that means frequent cleaning.

Standard vs 22/45, al frame is nice but grip angle affects muscle memory. It’s a personal choice. Depending on the can weight the lite might be important. I have a titanium can so don’t notice it being a problem, almost a feature, the weight helps with jitters somewhat.

I had a MK III 22/45 lite, put about 100 rounds through and quickly traded for a standard weight MK-VI 5" had the barrel threaded and put a sparrow on it love it almost as much as my MK II gov't. I didn't like the lite as it just felt wierd in my hand , it worked fine just didn't like the feel..

I shot a friend’s father’s Standard quite a bit, way back in middle school in the mid-70s when he would take us to the range. I bought my first, a 22/45 Mark II Target as a soldier back in ‘94. I went with the 22/45 precisely because it mimicked the grip angle and controls of the 1911, which I was very familiar with, having grown up in a military family. I later bought a heavy-barrel 22/45 Mark III Tactical when I ran across it at a price I couldn’t pass up. My son has that one now. It wears a Dead Air Mask HD suppressor and is a joy to shoot. My latest is a 22/45 Mark IV Lite, which shoots even better with that suppressor.

Finally got my OK and installed the suppressor. It is GREAT. So quiet that I can hear the action more than the round going off. Using subsonic rounds so far.

RXD22TI arrived today. Said "buy" on April 27 and today is June 23 - not quite two months for the can and a family trust form 4.

Anxious to try it out.

We are all just giving opinions here. I have never cared for the Lite Ruger semi-autos. First, I like some heft to my handguns, secondly I don't feel like the aluminum will wear as well as steel. And, I have never owned a 22/45 and honestly I don't know why. I own and like 1911 pistols, and the polymer that Ruger uses on the 22/45 pistols frame will wear like iron. There is no reason in the world that I don't have one.

Somewhat 'off course' here but I've found the 'LITE' version a bit more difficult to hold steady. In fact, to achieve best accuracy with a 'standard' 4.5" 22/45, I added an 8" 'muzzle extension' (similar shape to a suppressor but just a solid aluminum tube 1.25"OD and 0.5" ID}. The extra weight upfront made a significant difference in longer range accuracy.

I would expect some blast/noise mitigation as well. Did you find that to be the case?
