Colt Guy Rescues 1955 Blackhawk

I’d noticed this 1955 Blackhawk SN 1672 in the local pawnshop for months. I couldn’t stand seeing it in their display case any longer, negotiated what I hope was reasonable price, and brought it home. It’s clearly lived a good part of its life in a holster because of the pitting on the loading gate and opposite side, and some rust. But, it couldn’t have been fired much because there are no burn marks on the end of the cylinder or barrel, minimal turn line, and tight lockup. Looks all original from what little I know about Rutgers. Shame about the holster wear, but I like it. Comments - good / bad ?

I think you did quite good. You rescued a desirable gun. Yes,, it has it's issues,,, but clean it up as best you can & enjoy it for what it is. It's what we call a "Type 1" Flattop.

Shot it for the first time yesterday and man oh man, that revolver is fun to shoot and very accurate. I’ve owned a lot of very collectible firearms in my 67 years, but this is my first single action, and it sure brought on a silly grin. When I bought mine, a friend was with me and he bought another Ruger BH SN 29$$ dated 1956. His was in a little better shape than mine, but the collector in me couldn’t pass up the first production year. He’s a Vietnam era Airforce Navigator, and we were like two kids in a candy store.
