Single Six Flat Gate, new to me

I picked this up today, a GB find. Was surprised when it was unwrapped and it came in a fitted presentation box, with a manual! Has the original flat gate, serrated er button and the steel erh. Only problem is it has been converted. I have everything I need to put it back to original except the hammer. I am looking for one. It came with a set of walnut grips, I had the originals. What really drew me to this was the serial number.

I have no idea what is going on, but this thing is not letting me post or edit. Anyway, Jay, I don't know what I am going to do with the box, It is a definite shooter. I would rather not keep it in the box. I am looking for a hammer so I can make it right...........
 
No, it just wasn't allowing me to post or edit one of my posts. Been doing that for a few days, telling me to try later. And sometimes when I try to get onto the forum or into a thread, it tells me "Bad Gateway". I have no idea.........
 
I'm not a collector or an expert, but I wonder if that wooden box might be one that housed the famous Jarred engraved Single Sixes (RSSE ???) ..? If so, it could be very valuable to a collector......Anyone care to verify....?

Problem is, how would you verify? Has no markings or paperwork with it. Were presentation boxes included with the Single Six often? I am not a collector either in the purest sense, I collect shooters, usually not in the greatest of shape. I enjoy working on them, and bringing them back to a good, useable condition.

I didn't think it was. The case also has some damage to it, a coupla scratches on the lid and what appears to be a cigarette burn on the lip. Previous owner must have been a bit careless.
 
I am trying to put a coupla pictures up, keep getting the OOPS! message. Signed off and back on 2 times, didn't help. Oh well.................

Yes I know. If it had been converted by someone else it would not be stamped. I have an om .41 that was converted, no R. I sent it in for a re-barrel, when they ran the serial # it didn't come up as converted. I sent it in, got it back a couple weeks later, no stamp. But it is probably in their system as a conversion.

I tried to steam out the scratches on the lid today, the small one on the left ironed out, the big one has the grain cut, so I had no great expectations on it, Good thing, as it didn't steam out.
 
I sent a request for a letter of authenticity to Ruger today, included a note about the presentation box. I don't know if they will be able to tell me if it was sent with the box, but what the hey, worth asking about. Should get it back in a couple weeks.
 
I reconverted my converted SS FG to un-converted, at least that's what I think I did! Got a call from Ruger yesterday, letter is on the way. She told me in the message it did not show this SS being shipped in a presentation box, and Ruger never had a pres. box that looked like this one. Must be by a previous owner. Guess I'll put it in storage. The box, not the gun!
I took it to the range last Thursday, shot great! Didn't even have to drift the rear sight to get it on bullseye. I have also decided not to send it to Ruger to be blued. Honest wear, with the slightest hint of going plum. A good old shooter.....
