Picked up a nice RSM 375 with a 2.5x Leupold on her and a Dan Wesson 357 with a few extra barrels!

Several years ago, I had the same rifle in 375H&H and one in 458 Lott and let both of them go on a trade deal.
Recently came across the same rifle but it is a 30-06 caliber (some refer to it as the American Express Rifle) and having experience with the previous two rifles bought the 06 rifle which is in reality the same rifle other than caliber. Good friend of mine has a collection of Ruger firearms and he sold the 06 version to me for he knew that I truly missed the first two RSM rifles. This version of Ruger 77's is the peak of quality throughout.

I love the express rifles! I still need to acquire a 7RM and 300WM, I gave up on ever finding the 25-06 version! I have both versions of the RSM (barrel band ahead of the stock and barrel band through the stock) except the 458 Lott, I need one of them with the through stock barrel band. My friend has one chambered in 505 Gibbs, not done by Ruger but an Alaskan Smith did 5 of them that I know of. They are truly a beautiful rifle! The 375 version could stand to go on a diet, way more gun weight than needed in a 375, I’ve often wondered what Renner could do with one if given the task of slimming one down. My thoughts, and I have never confirmed this but I think the RSM must have been designed as the 416 Rigby. Of the three, the Rigby is as close to perfect as one can get in a production rifle as far as weight for caliber and balance go. Unfortunately we will never see a rifle like either the RSM or Express come off a line again. Glad there are still some around to be had and enjoyed though at relatively good prices.
 
the early Dan Wesson, ala High Standard mfg., had a protrusion down the rear of the barrel where it contacted the cylinder frame, this protrusion actually was needed to hold the lower cylinder crane in the frame, later on they removed the protrusion and made an extra cut inside, under the side plate, on the lower ,front of the cylinder frame and with a "C" clip it holds the lower crane leg in the frame, more sleek and functional....;)(y)(y)

FWIW, Dan Wesson manufactured the "pork chop" Sentinel MKII & MKIII .357s for High Standard, not the other way around. Revolvers produced by DW for HS have serial numbers from H10001 thru H31911, and H35029 thru H35049 (with 2.5", 4" & 6" barrels, and fixed or adjustable sights) , and were shipped between July 1973 and June 1975. Apparently there were 73 doubled serial numbers, with most of the doubles marked "-1" after the serial number. In addition, there were 23 pre-production sample guns in the serial number range H0001 thru H0028, shipped between April & July 1973.

The most commonly encountered model is the 4" Sentinel MKII (8450 produced, HS catalog number 9402), while the rarest is the 2.5" Sentinel MKIII (1260 produced, HS catalog number 9407). Total number produced by DW for HS was about 21400, with ~12490 Sentinel MKIIs (fixed sights) and ~8900 Sentinel MK IIIs (adjustable sights). Info is from the Dan Wesson internet forum...

I dismissed the DW revolvers for years because of the cylinder latch location. It looks goofy. Then I handled one my friend bought and found it to be quite intuitive.

That pistol pack is awesome.
