thanks for telling me that the box says 357...... in the time it took you to answer without actually answering the question, you could've just answered the question. I did a search on maximums before asking my question. Didn't find what I was looking for. New member to THIS forum, but not new to the world of forums. It is my understanding that as members we are to share knowledge and understanding of a topic that we all appreciate. In this case that would be Ruger revolvers. Great job Moderator

If you took the time to read what Hitman wrote you would have gotten the information that you asked for. He wrote that the shipper had written on it “357 Maximum Caliber”. Most folks on here are trying to help and educate. Your smart mouth answer because you did not read Hittmans answer won’t help you very much.
Just take the time to read the replies, I hope that this helps you.
 
Thanks for telling me to read the replies. I did. More than once. Still don't know the answer. It is eluding me. . 357 to be exact. Was simply asking if it is a caliber, or a model. I am a fairly educated man who is not lost on the art of reading. But on the subject of the 357 maximum I know zero. Felt like my question was relevant. Still do.

"the shipper had written"..... I did indeed see the box, and its label. I read what was annotated on that as well. Never having heard of such a beast as that before, I had questions. I asked. Never got a simple answer. So off to the wonderful world of Wiki I went where I learned it is a specific cartridge. Would it have been so hard for someone to say it is a type of cartridge??
Now as far as my "smart mouth answer" goes.....a reply to my question with the intent of sharing knowledge would've alleviated this unnecessary back and forth dialogue. Have a wonderful night

As printed on the bottom ( shipper ) box:
357 Maximum Cal. ~ Cal. is a common abbreviation for the word caliber.

Model ~ New Model Blackhawk as printed on the end label of the top box.

You'll also see Rugers catalog number for this gun along with the barrel description and length.

So it seems without more specificity from you, the answer to your first question(s) was answered. Without snark. LOL

I just saw another one on another Forum for sale.

Serial number 600-01027

The barrel has been cut down to 5-1/2".

I would have tried to buy it if it hadn't been cut.
 
I wish to thank all those that have shared their numbers. Been tracking them since about 1984. My goal is to try and determine % of 7 1/2 vs 10 1/2 and the change in variations of each. That is why I ask to note front sight height. PRODUCTION UPDATE: I was fortunate enough to acquire one of the serial number roll mark log book. It lists start/stop, numbers roll marked, date and machine operator. I have, for years, said that Ruger produced around 15,000+ serialized frames and/or completed guns. The magic number, TOTAL ROLL MARKED FRAMES (does not mean completed guns) is 16,314. Now, according to the factory the highest number out there is 600-11588. so that means Ruger "scrapped" a MINIMUM of 4,726 Maxi's. Given the research I have done I would say that around 6000+ have been "scrapped"

Hey Coogs, I have a few for you log and a couple questions.

Top right, 600-00303, 7-1/2”, tall front sight.

Top left, 600-07087, 7-1/2”, short front sight. This one has a Bisley grip frame, trigger and hammer. I’m assuming this is not factory, am I correct in this assumption?

Bottom left, 600-03482, 10-1/2”, different style sight. Is this factory?

Badubet69, your frame was roll marked on 2/4/83 and shipped in 1983. To the best of my knowledge there was never a max with a factory Bisley grip frame especially as yours shipped in 1983 and the Bisley came out in 85 or 86. Yes, that is a factory front sight. It is The "high" base......not very common at all.......most 10 1/2 guns has a "low" base and a higher blade.
 
I picked one up last year, 10.5", hooked sight, not sure if it's been posted here from the previous owner.
Still new in the boxes, the yellow box and the outer shipping box.

Both in great shape. I would say my 7-1/2" has the taller sight but nothing to compare to. 10-1/2" front sight is completely different. Great cartridge.
