I got very lucky and found a S47N .44 Mag. built on a S440 Convertible frame. Serial #87-01222 and have verified by phone
with Ruger Records that it is one of the 50 extra convertible frames.
Note ser. #87-01219 is the highest reported S4440 revolver, this gun is 3 guns above it which narrows down the 50 extra frame range.

Nice score Terry, my last ones went to Tulsa last year and sadly I never looked up just where in the scheme of things them darn oversized .44-40/.44 mag guns went....they looked good with the Buckeyes I sold them with...makes for a NICE "set".............(y)(y)

I suspect a few of these may have also been shipped with unfluted cylinders without the .44 Mag. rollmark.
Here in a bit, I'm going to research the sn's to see if the "50" number holds water.

update.... uh, oh!!! Just went to Ruger's serial number lookup page where 87-01222 is listed as model 0812 .44-40/.44 Mag. Convertible. Hope the letter you receive says otherwise!

I can understand the search showing that info, like you noted the letter is what matters!

If S4440 #87-01219 is the last true convertible made and the 50 number is valid that should make #87-01269 the last of the frames. The known high is 87-01245, and thats half way to 50,;)

However if it would letter as a S4440 I've got that covered too, :) ;),,

From 87-01162 to the end, here's what shows up as model 0802 S47N

87-01168
87-01186
87-01193
87-01206
87-01214
87-01216
87-01226
87-01231
87-01232
and
87-01234

at this time, it is anybody's guess as to what the earliest 0802 S47N is, but I will research.

Ruger's serial number lookup page shows the highest serial number in this run as being 87-01249, a convertible (Ruger model 0812).
