I saw that Ruger LCRx in .22lr was available on Gallery of Guns, but if your set on a steel DA revolver you'll have to go with the S&W if you want one sooner rather than who know when.

The S&W 63 should be a fine .22lr to enjoy.

I have decided to look at the Smith & Wesson Model 63. I can find them, expensive, and pretty apt to stay that way. I have to do a little research. They are available with a rebate at this time.
The 63 is nice.

To help answer the grip question. Ruger offered the guns with the rubber grips and either the wood or the ribbed plastic insert.
The grips that are all rubber are normally aftermarket.

The SP-101's in .22 LR are a bit harder to find occasionally. I went to a gun show yesterday,, (as noted,, you can't find something if you don't look,) to mostly browse & try & pick up a few small odd items. I found a few OM Rugers,, but they were either too rough for the asking price,, or just plain overpriced.
Yet,, I did see a few NM's that were desirable to many that were fairly priced. If I'd been looking,, (Sheriff's model, stainless Vaquero with the correct poly/ivory emblem-ed grips, for $700) I would have brought it home. Then there was the color cased Vaquero in 44-40, that showed the color wearing but was priced at $650.00. I saw a Low Back blued Security-Six that needed some TLC,, but still it was a low-back, and for it's condition, fair.

Of the SP's I saw,, none were in .22.
