I have torqued the screws according to what is recommended by Ruger.
I will look at the crown again as well.
I ordered a laminate stock for it today.
I'll contact Ruger after the weekend as was suggested here.

I purchased a M77 MkII All-weather in .308 a couple of years ago for hunting.
Out of the box it shoots (sprays) an eight inch group at 100 yards.
I did the trigger mod and the trigger is were I like it at three pounds.
I have tried numerous weights and brands of cartridges and still nothing...
Something else to think about.
The kill area of a Whitetail deer is about eight to ten inches in diameter (the size of a paper plate), if you are able to get a two to three inch group into this area the rest is easy, dressing the deer out.

The torque of the mounting screws is critical, as is the tension on the barrel at the forestock.
On one of my compact M77 MkII's, I relieved the contact area to two points at 4:00 and 8:00, creating a 'V' for the barrel to rest in. This worked for this rifle with a laminated stock.

I picked one up used a couple of weeks ago, reworked the trigger, relieved the fore-stock and mounted a scope.
Mine looks a lot like yours, except for the pattern of the laminated stock.
Shoots extremely well and it's light.
I'll keep this one for a long time.
