A little tighter grip with the middle and ring fingers should help. That's all you get. The combination of ultra-light gun and stout loads is never comfortable.
Sorry, I don't share load info. If the gun shoots low, try a slower load. In handguns, "fast hits low, slow hits high", but this is just a rule of thumb.
Fixed sights only for self-defense? I worked up a .357mag load for my 3" SP101 that shoots dead-on at 50 yards. It's only 2" high at 15 yds. Unless I'm in a place where bears are big and mean, it's my carry gun for the woods.
I've been shooting .44 magnums for over 20 years. So far, no ill effects. My advice to a new shooter is - Make sure the grip fits your hand and avoid textured finishes. The grip should slip a bit on firing, and checkered grips act on your skin like a file on wood. No good.
Lots of words have gone into the subject: Which is the best deer gun? Mine (with 30+ years experience) is -

One is whatever you can shoot quickly and accurately at the ranges determined by the terrain, and is not banned by any of the hundreds of mostly worthless hunting...
Fired a Blackhawk .30 Carbine once, the loudest boomer ever. Didn't buy it. You can tell people who shoot one regularly from their favorite word: "What?"
I've been using Kroil for years. Works well, but you have to give it some time to soak in. I've pulled brushes out of Kroil-soaked barrels just wrapped up with lead strips. Helps to have a good supply of cleaning brushes, and time at hand to put some elbow grease into the job.
Actually, you...
Every Ruger handgun I own that has adjustable sights has had the rear sights replaced by aftermarket sights, mostly Millett and Williams. The factory sights are not up to the quality of the rest of the gun, in my opinion. I'm not saying that the factory sights are bad, just that it's easy and...
I haven't found any new .38spl or .357mag brass to buy for at least 9 months now. My brass is getting overused (more than 12 loadings for most). Running low on propellant and primers. Lucky I overstocked on bullets the last "drought", so I have a decent supply.
A friend bought a vintage...
I ran into the same thing a few weeks ago. The guy in the front desk told me the fired brass belonged to them. I told him I was shooting revolvers, so he offered me a small cardboard box for the brass. I turned around and never looked back.
I'm sure these people are profiting from the...
Opened the string fearing the often-repeated messages. Not this time. Good! The popcorn is gone and the beer is getting warm, so my message needs to be short:
The best gun for bear is the strongest handgun you feel comfortable shooting under extreme pressure.
That's it for me.
