CDR - Photos would be helpful! The SN you offered suggests the right time frame of 78... It would be 34-40xxx. I do not know of any 10.5 (or 10") factory models from that era. Does it have a Ruger rollmark on the barrel? And the barrel measurement is taken from the forcing cone. So if...

I like my LC9 which has come to be my daily sidearm. Not over the moon with trigger pull, but I'm used to it.., And it's a response gun, not a target gun! ;)

Nope... I never keep one in the chamber as a matter of course. If pull it to respond to a situation, I pull/rack it in one motion and it's got one in the pipe when it comes to bear. Doesn't cost me a second of time.
