Why would anyone bore a hole?

Why would anyone bore a hole in a Blackhawk wide spur hammer? I got this one from Numrich arms and figured maybe the PO had an issue with lock time? Excessively hard primer strikes?

Anyway, it works and since right now they're scarcer than hen's teeth I won't send it back. Ideas?

Yes, it was to improve lock time on customized single action revolvers. This mod was usually done along with other accuracy mods back when metallic silhouette was popular.
