They say imitation is the best form of flattery....
Looks like Smith has taken a page out of Ruger's playbook, like when Ruger came out with an improved version of Walther's 22 pistol in the form of the SR22.
In this case the S&W version has a list price of $409 and looks like a knock off of the KMKIII512 or model 10103 at $629. With a gun that looks like the Ruger and has slight improvements (potentially) in terms of take down and sights (fiber optic), trigger stop screw, etc. You're talking about a gun that is 30%+ cheaper in terms of list. Will have to see what that translates to street pricing. Also noticed the put the serial number on the frame and not the barrel/bolt, so they can sell accessory barrels in the future, with others already offering these. Think that was a decisive marketing move, that will immediately differentiate it, even if you never buy a 2nd barrel.
The closest Ruger version is a Talo special with the fiber optic sights, and it lists at $664.02 with a sell price of $580.00 from Tombstone Tactical.
Think Smith may give Ruger a hard run for their money, if the gun is any good.
Ruger will have to lower their price and cut profits to remain competitive, unless they come out with a better mouse trap version of the MKIII!!!
Be interesting to see what the trigger is like on the Smith guns, as the Ruger needs work to be decent (opinions as usual LOL)
