Greetings. Getting ready to order A Leupold FX-II Scout IER 2.5x28mm
scope for my RGSR with the 16in. barrel. Curious to what my best
options are for a mount system. Here we go again...rings verses
single mount. Sorry.

Is there a noticeable weight difference in the two? If I get rings then I
will have to invest in a lapping tool verse most high end single mounts
don't need this, correct? Most gun shops in my area haven't even
heard of lapping. And with me being a perfectionist, I'd soon buy
the tool and do it myself.

If I really like the scope I may buy one for my mini-14 as well, OR I could
just get a good single QR mount so I can switch between my scout and mini.
My Mini 14 does have a forward UltiMAK Picatinny rail. So swapping would be
cool, but I'm not against having two dedicated Leupold FX-II Scout IER scopes
for each gun sporting rings.

What do you other RGSR owners think? Thnx! -keith

Don't have a scout rifle, so I can't offer any advice there..... but I can tell you this:

A good set of quick-disconnect rings or a QD mount will bring the scope back very close to zero every time.... on the SAME rifle. The odds that a scope with QD rings will have the same zero on two different rifles? You stand a better chance of winning the Powerball lottery.

A lot of single scope mounts position the scope very high off of the receiver since they are intended for AR-style rifles with their completely straight stocks. They will put the scope much too high for the GSS with it's conventional stock design.

Leupold QRW, (Quick release Weaver) rings would be my choice. You can go back to the iron sights without tools.
