I bough a finished birch stock from Boyds for my Ruger American Ranch rifle in 450 Bushmaster. While fitting the barreled action to the Boyds stock I found that the bolt hit the top of the buttstock. I rasped and sanded through the original finish so I decided to refinish the whole stock. I used Tru-Oil for the job. There is no laser etching or checkering on the stock so it is very slick. Professional checkering or laser etching is too expensive for me. Does anyone here know of a gunsmithing school that could use a donor stock to practice checkering or carving? If you have any other ideas please share them. Thanks.
