Hi Gang, do we know when No. 1's were offered with factory case coloring? Were they done in house? How many exist? Was it available in all calibers?

Thanks!

I have one in 300 H&H which was made in 21 I believe.
I think the year before was a 22 Hornet if I'm not mistaken

Pretty sure Ruger never did any CC in-house for No. Ones. The recent issues with case coloring were contracted by distributors (i.e. Lipsey, Talo, etc.). I know the 22 Hornets were done by Tyler Gun Works.

They are actually contracted by Ruger and then shipped out as factory Ruger CCH to the various distributors who ordered them, a reason they all have their own individual model numbers.
In 1992 Ruger also sent one Number 1 rifle out to be color case hardened. That gun is a 1-S 45-70 serial number 133-01833. It was shipped from the factory in 2007 as a "used" gun, probably put away at that time by Henry Rodeschin, of "Rody's Gun Shop" fame in Newport New Hampshire who recognized it for what it was. Somebody got a good deal on that one... it sold for $3,750 at auction about a year ago. I was not able to pin down who did the CCH, Turnbull didn't turn up anything from the period. So maybe Ruger sent that batch of guns to Colt?? There were reportedly several different examples of model series' sent out, a steel frame Bearcat, the number 1 mentioned here and I assume one or several Vaquero or Blackhawk prototypes.

Here is a list of the other Number 1 models Ruger has case color hardened.

21321 1A .22 Hornet, 22" barrel
21330 1A .22 Hornet, 24" barrel
21331 1A .275 Rigby, 24" barrel
21332 1S .300 H&H, 24" barrel

Also, 21333 was a 1A 6.5x55 with 24" barrel that was ordered, but Ruger never produced any.
