Is SR4756 still being made? I thought it was discontinued. I burned many, MANY pounds of 4756 in .45ACP before I discovered the wonders of WW231.
Yes, it is an older container. They have discontinued it. :(
Yes, WW231 is fine for 45ACP but my research did not recommend it for 357mag.
BTW, the list I posted is just providing inventory on what I have on hand for the 357.

231 wouldn't be great for max .357 performance, but it COULD be used. I shot a lot of 4.5 grains of 231 with 158 grain lead bullets in .38 Spec cases, so it would be perfectly safe in .357 (although not, as I said, a top performer). Coincidentally, 4.5/231 behind a 115-124 grain lead bullet is a good 9mm load.

5.3/231 behind ANY 200-230 grain lead bullet worked great in any .45ACP gun I ever shot it in, including at least three different revolvers. Pretty amazing load. ;)

My order of .357 favorites.

1: A2400
2: Lil' Gun
3: W296
4: H110
5: 300-MP
6: There are others like colored dots and powders that start with a V but those four are the best and the first two are quite a bit ahead of 3/4 and 5.

I do not waste time with loading light for cartridge bullets or under speed but those that do might have a different powder in mind. A lot of the powders mentioned are much better for .45 AUTO and 9X19 but aren't that great in .357 unless you use a tiny 125 grain bullet and a very small charge of a faster pistol powder such as Unique, Bullseye, or 231. I would not recommend any of those and they are not at all close to 24003.

I have picked up 4 lbs of 2400 at the last 3 gun shows...all sealed 3 were the short metal cans and one of the newer plastic bottles. The plastic bottle cost 20 dollars..Have 20 dollars in the other 3 cans combined. For those who have it...Herco...4756...Win 571/HS-7(same powders). I have bought 10 pounds of other older powders lately at gun shows 2- HiVel #2 , 3- Reloader 11, 1- Unique, 2- Herco, 1- Reloader 21 and 1- Hodgdon HS-5...other than $15 for the Unique the rest all cost 5 dollars each. I gave a friend a pound of HiVel #2 and he jut loaded 200 rounds of 35 Remington with it...Point is...don't turn your nose up at old powder. I'm still loading a lot of old powders. Still work fine

Brownells has 2400 in stock
FYI only! It's $76 for 1# with fees PLUS shipping and tax. Of course, buying 10#'s would lower the price considerably.

Put 1# in your cart to see the charges before tax and shipping. To send 1# of 2400 to me totals $96.46.

I going to put a "plug" in here. There are other manufacturers of powder than Alliant. BTW I gave up my reliance on Alliant 31 years ago after their plant blew up twice in a year and the source of Red Dot dried up. Now VISTA Outdoors, who recently announced a pending shortage because of two wars, thus instigating a price increase. Good old Jason Vanderbrink at his greedy best.

At present I have been using Shooters World powders made by/marketed by LoveX in Europe. This is the same folks who supplied John Sonday and the original Accurate Powders in the 1980s. Cleanshot = Acc #2, Tight Group, 231, Bullseye; Ultimate Pistol = Autocomp, Unique; Auto Pistol Acc#5 & similar to HS6, Power Pistol; Major Pistol = Acc #7, Blue Dot, IMR Blue, similar to Longshot,; Heavy Pistol = Acc #9, & similar to to Lil'Gun and 2400, H110/296, IMR 4227; Buffalo Rifle = Acc 5744.

I have also been using Match Rifle = Acc 2520, CFE223, RL15, IMR 4064; Precision = Varget, IMR 4320. These powders are loaded in 3006 & 308/7.62 - 150-168 gr bullets, 223/556-77 gr bullets.

Very good info, Sam. Thanks for taking the time to post all that! ;)
