Hi all-First post here. Been reading this forum for several yrs. just never posted. Really enjoy most of the posts, especially the guys from Soda Springs. Years ago Dick Thompson coached my little league football team in Inkom. Fun times. Anyway-this post is about my new single seven in 327 magnum.
I picked it up from the local Lipseys dealer in Pocatello last wk. Had him order it. Looked good upon inspection so I put down the dollars for it. $560 total. Those guys bidding on the auction sites for these new revolvers are crazy, IMHO. But it's their money. No sharp corners, good fit on all parts, no machining marks, looked ok.
Got it home, cleaned it up, measured cylinder gap-this is where I got my first disappointment. .008 all seven holes. At least all seven were the same. This can be tightened up, although it shouldn't have to be. It is what it is. So I then took it outside to shoot. Noticed that some of the cartridges would not load as they should, had to give them a little push. This should have sent a red flag up and I should have looked a little closer at the cylinder. But no, I wanted to shoot it. Shot a full cylinder and that was it. Shells wouldn't eject. None of them. Took it inside, took the cylinder out and pushed the shells out with a punch. They pushed out ok. No hammer use. One of the shells was split top to bottom, all of them showed lots of powder burn on the case. What the H? I was using American Eagle 100 grain factory loads. Upon further inspection of the cylinder I noticed that one of the holes had what looked like a chip of something protruding from the wall. Got my nylon pick out to try to scratch it out. Wouldn't do it. Why? 'Cause it is a metal burr. Great, now what. This is the first problem I've ever had with a Ruger. And I've had and do have a lot of them. I've got a Blackhawk in this caliber and I love it. It's a fun shooter and very accurate with the loads I use. I was looking forward to this little sevengun. Now I don't know what to think. I'll probably take care of it myself, But it is a letdown. So this is my initial experience with the single seven. Any comments are welcome. And I'm not going to disrespect Ruger. Things happen. We all love our Rugers, otherwise we wouldn't be here on this Forum. Right. But I am disappointed to say the least.
Thanks,
Ken
