Which one do you use? I always use Flattop, but wonder if it betrays my not being a Ruger insider. Not an important question, just curious what the prevailing opinion is. Thanks

My take on the subject is this:

Colt made Flat Top Target guns (some of THE MOST beautiful Colt's extant, IMHO).

Ruger made Blackhawks with flat top straps. Shooters/Collectors labeled them Flattops.

No, sir! I can buy a box full of Ruger Flattops for the price of that Colt!

Like to get a USFA version in 44 special, but being the average Joe I am, I will buy two or three Rugers instead! Must run in the Rugerforum family!

Flattop being a proper noun, the name of a specific type of revolver. Flat top being a general description of something with a flat top, such as the M-16, aircraft carrier, or haircut. BUT...they are used interchangably so much it is hard to tell.

(kinda like a fire fighter being anyone who fights fire, while a Firefighter is a specific rank in the fire service, but these are also used interchangably)

Where is our English teacher when we need you CD?
