I just discovered that N.C. Ordinance is making Birds-head style brass grip-frames for Blackhawks. They call it the Ruger lightening and it's supposed to be direct fit for Vaquero, XR3- red, XRN- red, Blackhawks, and Single-six.

I know I'm going to pick one up for my "Liberty" .357 Blackhawk.

Here's the page if anyone's interested: http://gungrip.com/rugerlightningbackstraps-3.aspx

Ron Powers of http://www.powercustom.com makes two piece brass grip frames for new and old model Rugers. His frames are XR-3 size and shape bur can be contoured to a birds head shape quite easily and they are of premium quality.

It doesn't say new or old model so I presume just for new models. I hope they're 2nd generation mold improves over their original quality offerings.

Personally I don't like the shape, wasn't ergonomic for me and even looks funny.

I went with a Pietta birds head back strap for $57, fitted to a simply modified Ruger grip frame front strap, and it can be brass plated along with the Ruger piece.

Unless I am mistaken, that grip frame is no longer listed on the Power Custom website. I was specifically looking for it last week, and didn't see it listed.

It is still there, I looked at it last night. Go to the single action section and on the first page it shows Colt style grip frames for the Rugers. It will as for material and when you click on it it shows steel, stainless steel or brass for $50 extra. It also has you select if you want it for an old model Ruger or a new model Ruger.

Thanks, Robb! Maybe I missed it last time I was there. I'll check again.
