    Winchester Model 70 (post-2008 FN-made models)

Well, after all the good reviews here, I went and done it. I didn't end up with a .243, but did take home a 270. I intended to take home the smaller caliber, but the shop had a sale on the 270 with the matte stainless barrel (very appealing to me, even though I suspect it will scratch easily)...

    Winchester Model 70 (post-2008 FN-made models)

Sagebrush, that's pretty much what I was thinking. I've needed a smaller caliber for awhile, so the .243 seems perfect. Titleist, glad to know that you're rifle is still performing, in spite of the tool marks.

    Winchester Model 70 (post-2008 FN-made models)

Sagebrush, glad to hear you're happy with your rifle. Pronghorn would be the ulimate goal of this rifle, also. I've been considering a 270, but think I've settled on a .243. I don't shoot at much if anything beyond 300 yards, and the 270 is to close to a host a .30 cals in my safe. So, i don't...

    Winchester Model 70 (post-2008 FN-made models)

Thanks, gentlemen. I appreciate the information. Your experiences sound a lot like the others I was able to read from 2008/2009. Looks like a trip to the fun store is in my future. Cheers, Digger

    Winchester Model 70 (post-2008 FN-made models)

I'm thinking about adding a new rifle to the fold and looking to branch beyond Rugers for my bolt actions (heresy, I know). I love my m77's, and have looked at the Hawkeyes but the new versions of the Model 70 featherweight have caught my eye. Does anyone have any experience with the post-2008...

    Nosler Partitions in 300WM

I have had good luck with IMR-7828 in my M77 Mk. II, although I load 180 gr Sierra Game Kings. I use Winchester Brass and CCI primers. Standard caveats apply (my rifle + my loads, use caution and work up slowly, etc.), but I've found that a 77.5 grain load with a COAL of 3.35" (I think that's...

    Ruger P345 problems

Chief_10Beers is right. Does this happen during the firing cycle, or just when loading the first round? Do you slingshot the slide when loading, or slowly ride the slide into battery? Just like the video, this problem can be reproduced with a number of semi's if you lower the slide slowly. Guns...

    450 Bonecrusher

Beautiful gun and good shooting. I bet 38.0 gr H110 is quite an experience. For both the shooter and his next several neighbors. Love it.

    New GP 100.

Last week I added a new 4-in GP100 to the stable. Nothing unusual, just a standard GP. I have to admit I think the Hogue grips are about as ugly as they come, but I was really surprised at how comfortable they are. Pretty excited to get to the range and wring it out some. My family and I camp...

Hawkeye .300 Win. Mag. - LOADS

Well, there are mountains of load info out there for .300 Win Mag, but I'll share what's worked well in my M77 MkII (sorry not a a hawkeye). I don't use either R19 or R22, but I've had good success with 150 grain partitions over 77.5 grains of H4831SC and 180 grain Sierra Gamekings over 76...

    Thanks to everyone here.

I started with the same kit nearly 2 years ago. I still consider myself a beginner, but its a very engaging and rewarding hobby. In addition to what comes with the kit, I've found that its handy to have at least one more reloading block (the green plastic cartridge holder that comes with the...

    Cold storage and die contraction

Buds Owin, that's a good tip for centering the decapper pin. I'll give that a shot. Rick, I'm curious to here the results of the "deep freeze" test, although I suspect you are all correct that cool to cold dies aren't the issue. I do clean my dies before each use and oil them when I'm...

    Cold storage and die contraction

Well, I was using a Rockchucker, but was doing mine at 6:00pm EST last night. Still, there's more than a few coincidences here. If someone else chimes in with the same problem and same components, we're going to have to start looking for a connection with all the bird die-offs of late.

    Cold storage and die contraction

It difficult from the get go, Tek. Having thought about it over night, I suspect that you and YS are correct and that it is the lube that is the problem. I was probably under-estimating what was needed for the .45-70 and what I was using was probably less that perfectly effective due to the...
