Yearling buck

I live next to a golf course and find 3 or 5 balls a week in front yard. There is a yearling buck deer that comes out around 7:30 each evening. Tonight I watched him pick up and chew on a golf ball. He would drop it and pick it up again. A rabbit ran between his legs, he gave a stiff legged jump and crossed back to the links. Animals are funny!

Animals are smart. My moms Schnauzer carries 1 egg from hen house , in his mouth, and hides in couch. He has never broken one. Dad had a cow that would take his cap off his head. Big pet! Years ago, we had Jumping mules to coon hunt with. One mule would walk in to the house, on a lead rope.

I was raised in the small northern California town of Pacific Grove located on the south west corner of the Monterey Bay. We had a protected herd of small coastal deer that mostly lived around the cemetery and golf course. We lived half a block and one good right handed slice from the first tee of the golf course. All through my youth I saw many deer and many golf balls together. Neither took any notice of the other. :)

That buck may think the golf balls are eggs. I just saw a video a day or two ago of a deer eating eggs out of a duck next.
