WTB Ruer MK 1 BOX

Going to need barrel length and serial number to get the correct box. 5 1/2” or 6 7/8”.

Dan, when did they go from the two piece to the hinged top?

Basically, the old models all came in two piece boxes, the advent of the New Model in 1973 came the one piece red/white fold up boxes...in fact if you look on the inside of the top lid, it will be dated for copyright purposes, 1973...……...yes, there were always overruns or guns shipped in different era boxes till they used up everything I'm guessing, so never say 'never'.....I know of an old model 3 screw .44 mag.Super Blackhawk that is in fact an "S" gun and it came in the red/white box in 1973, to Cleveland Sport Headquarters...…….
going back the other way, the early standard autos (1949) and the Mark Is (1951-52) came in "hinged" boxes, guess the price for the "hinge was "extra" so they went to the two piece boxes.....
also as I noted earlier there were "different" boxes, case for scarcer models and is explained in about any of the many Ruger collectors books written over the years, or can be sought after in the Red Eagle News Exchange, as Chad keeps up with ALL of that kind of stuff...…………... 8) :roll: :wink:

The barrel length 4.75" and the serial number is 13-05032

Then you do not have a MK I; you have a standard Ruger. That changes everything, box wise. I have several correct MK I boxes but not for a standard model.

wow the dealer sold it to me as a Mark 1. Oh well I'll start looking again. I have an MK II an MK III and a IV just wanted a MK I to round out the set. Thank You

I went back out and stock a rod down the barrel until it hit the bolt and that measured 6 1/16"
There is not a marking on the outside that says MK I, but the dealer insists it is???????????

Did some research (on GunBroker) and I guess I have a standard. What I saw was all the MK I's were marked and this one is not and the MK I's had a larger adjustable rear sight and this one has a small fixed sight. Knowledge is key, but I did not have a standard so now I do.

if its not marked "Mark I" and does NOT have adjustable sights, and the barrel is that long, you need the box with an end label that looks like this, top left......

As Ruger Guy says the key to a MKI or standard is the adj rear sight

Most dealers have no clue what a standard is so every Ruger is a MKI to them

Now I'm questioning an MK II, it has large adjustable rear sight but it is not marked Mark II.
Hope it is.

There are standard models during the MKII era as well as actual MKII target models

You can always search the serial number online or directly from Ruger.com
This helps narrow down the type, year etc.....

Also consider joining RENE which is a huge help & wealth of information

over the years many, many folks put adjustable rear sights on the 'standard autos' and can usually be spotted by the TALL front sight blade, NEEDED, to get the gun to shoot "point of aim" and then there were aftermarket adjustable "low profile" (LPA) sold by Brownells, Midway ,etc and used the original front blade and they work........
yes, if the receiver is NOT marked on the right side , rear ( left of the ejection port) as a Mark , then it cam as a standard or if the rollmarks are NOT there,may have been refinished...........then you need to also measure the overall length of the barrel,,,standard autos did NOT come with bull barrels, or tapered bull barrels..........just 4 3/4 or 6 inch..............
