I am looking for V10 equipped 04 or newer Ford Super Duty with single rear axle.

Not looking to pay more than $8,000.00
WORKING AC IS A MUST!
HAS TO BE 4x4!

Manual or auto ok, but prefer manual
XL trim package or better is OK
Has to be extended cab or crew cab
Prefer one that is bone stock (no lift, motor mods, etc)
6 or 8' bed is ok
150,000-200,000 mile range

Contact me here or at offroader1994 at yahoo dot com

Joe: Not to step on toes but that is a pretty low offer for an 04 or better in good condition. If you are looking for a gasser you are closer. You didn't mention diesel or gas and that is a huge difference in price. To give an example, Mine. It is a 08 F350, 6.4L diesel, 4X4, supercab, 8'bed, XL, everything heavy mechanically (coolers, trailer packages, etc.). It has just over 50,000 miles and just off the top of my head I would not take less then $25,000. I'll keep an eye out, Texas is a fairly good market for buying HD trucks.

Meant to put V10. Dont care for the newer diesels. Sorry.

I missed a extended cab 180k mile 07 4x4 XL with V10 recently for $4500. Granted it was a "motivated" seller, but that is what i am looking for. 4500-8000 range. Not expecting a King Ranch, just want a good truck.

Wont know if i dont ask.

I have found a 180k mile 01 crew cab for $8500. Auto, v10, 4x4 with leveling kit plus 1" (not a fan of lifted daily drivers, but hey....) It aint a steal but seems like a solid truck with new tune up and tires in last month and new brakes today. May be getting it. Not sure yet.

Thanks. And that is a beautiful truck you have there. Best looking trucks on the road hands down IMO

Joe: I told a 30 year friend to never buy a truck with a 6' bed and he scoffed, I have a trailer it can handle anything longer. The problem is everything is longer. Plywood, sheetrock, Hardyboard, standard pipe lengths all come in 8'. This is why trucks have 8' beds. I may be preaching to the choir but I will never, ever buy another truck with a less then 8' bed. I have a 1995 F150 that I love but it is not worth a hoot because it has a 6.5' bed. My friend finally got fed up with having to take a trailer to pick up standard sized siding and bought a different truck with an 8' bed. Buy an 8' bed regardless, JMO.

If you are going to go back that far with the 01, try and find an 03 with a 7.3 diesel, they built a 7.3 and the 6.0 in 03. You actually had a choice. That is one awesome engine, absolutely reliable and easy to work on.

I know nothing about the gassers of this year range.

Karl

Even that far back, the diesels are bringing $10k unless they have issues. The few i have found under $10k have major issues (turbos, injectors, etc), are lifted rediculously high, or have 500k miles on them. At 200k miles, from what my mechanic buddies have been telling me, you start needing big money repairs. Dont want to buy a $10k truck and have to put $4-5k in it right off the bat. And unless you know the truck's history, it's a crap shoot.

The gassers are cheaper to work on at least. Wish i could swing a 100k mile 7.3, but them things are bringing $15-20k. Miney just aint there right now for a note like that.

Far as the 8' bed i agree. But i need a crew cab more (kids) and the only 8' beds I've come across have been supercabs. While I'm not against a supercab at all, since i have the option i think I'm gonna take the crew. I RARELY haul building material. Mainly feed and stuff for the horses, and fencing (tee posts are 6'), so i can make do. Now if a 150k mile, manual shift 2003 4x4 crew cab with 7.3 and 8' bed pops up for $8000-ish, show me where to sign! Lol

7.3 Diesel WAS the bomb! Check out ford truck enthusiast forum. the 6.0 is referred to as "leaker" instead of liter. The 6.4 is an improvement, but nothing like the old 7.3
As for Gas, the V10 is okay, but 99-2001 had short spark plug threads in the heads and too-small header bolt problems. The later ones (2005?) had those awesome (not) three piece coil-on-plug set ups. The V10 has more torque and doesn't really swill much more gas than a 5.4 Triton V8. the 2002-2004 is the BEST value right now in an F-250/350. Your price range is good to go. So....V10, 4WD, 8' bed and be happy

Was the spark plug threads and header bolts a real problem for the average Joe? Or just the guy that was trying to hot rod his truck? I rarely run my vehicles hard and this thing probably will rarelyy have more than a horse trailer behind it. Possibly a tractor or a camper here and there but it will mostly be a daily commuter.

Joe,
I finally had to officially join so I could reply to this. Lol. I have a 2000 f250 with the 5.4l. My recommendation is to avoid the early model SDs due to spark plug issue. I had a plug blow out and was lucky it only cost me $500 to have fixed. Since it was on the front of the motor they could put the "special" heli coil in without pulling the entire head. I had quotes from $500-$2100. The later models had more than 3 threads for the plugs (I think 02, 03 for sure) and had 3 valves per cylinder (more power). Also, the 5.4 works fine load wise, but it gets within 1-2 MPG of the v10. Had I known, I would have got the 10. There's other little things with the SDs that annoy me, but I still love it (and its paid for - lol).
Phil

Thanks Phil. Wont be looking at the 5.4 for sure. My buddy has an 02 Excursion with the V10 and my cousin had same truck with 5.4. Was a noticeable difference in power. Motor didn't last in that 5.4 truck and he never hauled anything but his 7 kids. Not sayin all are like that but that one was.

Love the 5.4 that was in my Expedition tho. Great motor in that truck. Lots of power.

Thanks for the input guys.

94-03 was the reign of the 7.3. I had a 94 that had that motor and i know 03 was a split year. 7.3 or 6.0.

Sold my 7.3 with 300,000 miles for $5500. Ran like a top. My others were always 6.0. The King Ranch had issues, ended up being the wiring harness rubbing. The others never a hitch. Really liked the 7.3 and the 6.0. The 7.3 is a loud booger though! I sold 3 of my last four there in Jackson :)

Ill ask my uncle if they are selling any of theirs from the shop there in Brandon/Pearl. Good luck on the search.

Interesting comments and looks like some sound advice. However Ford is still Frequent Overall and Rapid Depreciation. Try a Chevrolet. <vbg> JMTCW

Not to start a Ford v Chevy v Dodge argument but Chevy does not build a specific heavy duty truck until you get into over 1 ton. They take a 1/2 ton body and stick it on a 3/4 or 1 ton frame/suspension. Ford builds a "Superduty" specifically designed to be a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, they just don't remove the F150 body and call it something different. I am not and have never been a brand monger, I just believe in buying the best for the money. This goes for anything, my best buddy got mad at me for buying a orange tractor, I've always bought green. With that said this was a better tractor, it was just not green. JMO.

I love my Rugers. I was gently jabbing about the Ford. My 2 sons drive them....they have a Dad with lots of Rugers....<vbg>

I've got an 2002 7.3 Lariat crew cab 6.5 bed with just 62k on it. (I live close to work) I recently sold our travel trailer. Was planning to get an camper but found out the sizes are kind of limited for the 6.5 ft bed and still have some room to move around inside the camper. Should have known when I purchased this new in 2002. Love the truck and would not part with it! Not trying to hijack the thread but had to express my love for MY truck!
I wish you luck in your hunt.

I agree. The sound is missing something..

Oh yea two cylinders. :D

I love the Cummins tho. Wish they put em in a real truck.

Maybe a mod should move this to the Lounge. Lol

I have a 2005 Jayco Greyhawk RV built on the Ford E-450 chassis. I love the V-10 engine in it, smooth and pulls like a freight train.

if you not totally set in stone on a '04 and up, this would be a really nice truck that would last a loooong time.
