I have a friend who needs a price check on a 9422, she has no idea what its worth & neither do I, any help with a ballpark figure. She said its in great shape.

I agree with AJGUNNER. They're all over the board, and value depends largely on configuration.

I've sold some used XTRs for around $500 recently (regretfully). Last summer I had four NIB models and sold them on gunbroker for anywhere from $1050 to $1500 each. Trappers are going for $2000 or more. Magnums seem to be a little higher priced than the long rifle models.

I would say a good asking price for a really nice older model (XTR or pre-XTR) would be $750.

I agree with the $750 range. They vary in price on model/condition but that's a good price. I keep seeing the same guy at our local gun shows trying to sell a very clean 9422 xtr model for $800,and I'm surprised he hasn't moved it yet but he's had it for quite awhile

She just sent me a photo with her cell phone, the gun looks pretty clean, maybe not premium but very good. It says 9422 M on the barrel.

9422m is the 22mag version. What kind of wood is on it? Checkered or smoth? Laminate or regular wood? Does it have a saddle ring?

FWIW, I recently sold this pristine M9422M-XTR for $850

Glad to see this post I have a NIB consecutive SN set of 9422 XTR mags in the Red,white, and blue boxes that I was trying to put a price tag on.

No checkering makes it an early model. I sold a clean one on another forum for $700.

They are constantly on Gunsamerica for around $1000 but I never see them sell. One NIB Trapper with case hardened receiver sold over $1600 but I recall for sure. The only one reasonably priced IMO.

I don't ever remember a factory saddle ring being offered by Winchester on them. Only the add on brass ones like the one above with brass ring that replace the take down screw. Does anyone know if there were any factory saddle rings?

Agree, they are priced randomly it seems. Condition is everything and if you have six months to sell it, a higher price may be available.

Check the boards at Paco Kelly's Leverguns.com for some realistic numbers. They are not made of platinum, but are generally great rifles nonetheless.

I just bought one in January, as-new (unfired w/o box) for $600 and a favor, but have seen them higher if not nicer lately. I shot it that weekend, and am pleased with myself for the deal.

I have a early model 9422M - Mfg 1973, Ser No. F1298xx, bought new, before they started checkering, etc. In good shape they fetch $700+. No way I'm going to sell mine. :D These guns will continue to go up in value. I'd tell your friend to hang on to it and pass it down to kids, grandkids.

Btw, a couple things to look for on her gun. If it's earlier than 1978 it should have a steel magazine tube. Also it should have the factory sights installed or available. Lot of folks put aftermarket peep sights with a taller front bead on them. This all makes difference in collector value.

Hi Gene,

The 94/22s are a classic, well made and very accurate lever .22, the likes of which we'll never see again. Unless Miroku builds them for Winchester.

I have two, one early model I bought for $250 used in like new condition w/o checkering a long time ago. I ordered the long nose forend wood from the early Legacy model w/o checkering (like the pre war '92s & '94s and the current Miroku made Winchester '92 saddle ring carbines. Also found an extra buttstock, shaved the comb flat and scalloped the butt for a pre war carbine steel buttplate.
They should have made them like that!

I also inherited an XTR version trapper my dad left me which will go to my only grandson.

Nice. I'll show you mine if you show me yours ;) . These models are starting to attract a following similar to the M1911 and 1911A1 (the originals, not the customs made by Kimber and the like). I'd almost be that in 20 or 30 years you'll see the 9422's going for $5000 and up. NIB rare models already fetch well over $1000.

I still have the original front sight and hood, but like the newer sights you see here. Also put some spacers on the butt to suit me. Nothing that can't be easily reversed. A few thousand rounds thru it since new, and showing a little minor wear.
