I'm in the market for an affordable night vision scope or two... Anyone have experiences with any that they like, or any that are real trouble?

About 15 years ago I got a great deal on some Gen 2 Warsaw pact starlight binos.
A little bulky, and not as well defined an image as later versions. Still, at 100 yards you can tell difference between cougar & coyote at night.
Run off a common 9v battery, which seems to last for years.
Haven't seen this exact thing around for years, yet there was a ton dumped into supply chain at the time. You could get them with either soft or hard case, for around $400 retail back then.
I've often wanted something better, yet every time I price the better stuff, magabuX$$$ syndrome strikes....so these continue to serve my needs well enough.

Back in the mid 90's had a coyote problem, and bought a night scope with 4x magnification. It cost me $500 then. Mounted it on my .308. Never shot any animals with the rig. It seems my being out and about was enough to keep the coyotes at bay, along with my pack ( 5) Pyrenees and Kuvasz! The infra red feature didn't go ,but maybe 50 feet. I am surrounded by neighbors that have Quartz lamps that would effectively white out my scope in those directions. Basically everywhere.

My Warsaw binos have a feature that will shut off their tubes (greenish image) if too bright suddenly appears. They are fun at night for spotting comets & various indistinct lights in the sky. By day without them being turned on, the have about a 2.5 power regular optic magnification.
While not anywhere near the Gen 3 or 4 stuff, for the modest cost they have served me well. I'd probably buy similar again given the choice, as I don't have the $3000 really better stuff costs.
You'd think some surplus.mil night stuff would be hitting our shores soon.
