I am looking for a scope for my Mini 14. Most of my shooting will be 100 yards or less. Mostly targets. I would like to spend $200.00 or less. Any input would be great. What would be the best, laser, red dot, or scope? I always shot pistols and shotguns. This is my first rifle. Thanks Bob

Bob, That's pretty objective. I have had a "cheap" 3 X 9 Tasco on my Mini-14 for the past 18 years or so with absolutely "no" problems ever encountered. The .223 recoil is mild, especially in a semi-auto. Others swear that $400 to $500 scopes are just the "ticket" for them! Most of my shooting has been at 100 yards or less for the past 8 years here in Maine. Before that, I had it zeroed for 250 yards out West where I lived. Wally-World has the 3 X 9 Tasco's pretty cheap at this time. Just one man's opinion......................Dick

+1. Just put a cheap Bushnell Banner 3x9x40 on my mini 30 tactical. Supplied rings where just at the rite height and the scope looks nice and clear. Spent $74.00 out the door from Sports Authority :D

For under $200.00 I would look at the entry level lines of Nikon, Leupold, Burris and Weaver - the Prostaff, Rifleman, Timberline or 44/40 respectively. I like the Burris on my Mini, it's compact and clear. They have fixed 4s, 2 to 7s and Burris has a very small 4.5 to 14X by 32. I've got that one on an Encore in 6X47/222 Rem Mag and it's a great little scope.

My top choice would be a Burris Timberline 4X20. Its an outstanding scope for the money, very durable and compact. At 100 yards it has more than enough magnification for any sort of shooting. You can get one for $159.00 from Optics Planet.
