Well Guys my Grandson never ceases to amaze me.
A about three weeks ago some of his Buddies at Texas A&M decided they were going to run in the Woodland's Marathon (North of Houston) and wanted to know if he was interested. His answer was Yea why not sounds like fun. So he and the Buds start practicing for the event. Chad starts right off running 12 miles. The Buds say "hey this is to hard we are going to pass" Not Chad once he gets something in his head and says he is going to do it there is no turning back. Now remember he has classes and he spent the 5 days before the Marathon flying a plane from WA. to Texas.
Yea I guess I will have to post about that trip.
This did not leave much time to practice.
He did run one mile track events, at 4.7 minuets, in H. S. along with distance running events, but none since.
His comment after the 26 miles to us was " This is a Joke not the big deal people make of it" :D :D :D

His results Number #3 in his age group, #309 out of 782, ran it in 4Hr. 12Min. Avg 9min.36sec mile. This is good enough for him to be qualified to run in the Boston Marathon which he isn't. He just wanted to do one. Flying is a WHOLE LOT more fun :D

Congrats to all!
What a wonderful feeling when the younger generation does well.
And quite a statement for those who had a hand in raising them.

Good job for him to do it!
I'm a little over 60 years old and have been running for a while now.
He would beat me by about 10-15 minutes.
BTW.....To qualify for Boston 18-34 year old males need to run
under 3:05. Right now due to number of applicants more like
3:01 or so.

Opppppppppppps I should have researched more   I didn't read far enough on the Marathon he ran. Oh well

Still pretty cool that he ran it, lots of young people spend so much
time on the couch that they would never even try it.
He's got to be pretty fit to run that well with almost no
training.

So what is he going to do next?
Master degree....civil aviation....some form of OCS and military flying?
Say "screw it" and join the peace corp?
To be young with choices, I hope he really understands how fortunate
he is.

Dave,
A very good question, As I stated in the post of his Flying Adventure he will be graduating from Texas A&M in June with a BS in Business.
He has worked hard to be able to complete his degree in 3 years and keep a 3.8 GPA. This will give him a year or two to do fun stuff before going into Navy Flight Training. He plans on staying with us so he can work and learn more about restoring planes. This will also help with his getting his A&P license. He will probably be spending time at the Cub Crafters Factory in Yakima, WA. building, flying off the required time, and delivering Cubs to customers of our friend Mike who is a Cub Crafters dealer. That is who he was with on his last adventure.
He has also had some offers from a couple of big deal business men around A&M. One of them runs the Collage Station Airport among other ventures.
Yep it will be interesting to see all of this progress. I gave him the nickname "Texas Tornado" for a very good reason. :D

In my opinion, 4:12 in a marathon is quite an accomplishment for anyone, let alone someone who is not really a dedicated "runner".
Congratulations to him! He should be as proud as you are. :)
