What sub-sonic 5.7mm ammo now?

Did the same thing to the 5.56mm M16/M4. Shortened the barrel for CQB but reduced the muzzle velocity nearly to the level of .22 Magnum. Never made any sense to me.
Barrel length studies only show a few hundred fps loss unless you are talking about subsonic ammo because by definition sub sonic is below 1,200fps or so depending on altitude and relative humidity.
The M4 Carbine is way handier and more versatile than the old 20" Rifle for general use. There is the DMR version with an 18" barrel and other upgrades. Personally for subs the bigger the better. I'll take a 500gr sub out of my 450 Bushmaster over a 55gr of rice travelling the same speed.
