I am a new member as of today.

I have this old warhorse which I don't think I will ever shoot, but she is sure nice to look at....I can't remember what kind of Ruger she is however. Can any help identify what kind of ruger it is? Its chambered in 44 magnum.

as noted above, a Super Blackhawk, older model 3 screw variation and done in the style of the " old west" and has many different cattle brands on it, saw one like this before, years ago, at the Tulsa gun show as I recall.........nice gun, the ultimate in a BBQ gun .........

This gun has never been fired, and has no marks on the cylinder from being turned. Would I depreciate its value if I shot it...??

realistically "yes" but depending on just what YOU may have into the gun ( purchase price) and YOUR feelings or intentions, than by all means "use it"
just do NOT "ride it hard and put 'er away wet...." care for it

Bubba,

Ruger test fires each and every gun they make so the term "unfired" is technically incorrect.

HOWEVER, that nice ol' Super Blackhawk you have is indeed a "work of art" despite the fact the work is NOT
"Factory". The serial number of your Super Blackhawk consists of two numbers followed by a dash then five additional
numbers. Collectors refer to this group of Old Model Super Blackhawks as "Digit Prefix Supers"

PS The Model Number is S-47

Do you know who did the engraving? I saw a gun very much like yours several times at the Louisville show over the last few years, except it is blued. The first seller of it (it changed hands once) said Weldon Bledsoe engraved it, but could provide no documentation and I couldn't find Bledsoe's brand on it. If yours has provenance, then that might make the other one more easily narrowed down.

Nice gun!

Lasered, etched, or cut?
The use of $15 factory stocks and a worn factory standard alum. rear confuse me ... which is not hard to do, but why not finish the job?

that be cut, and my bet is someone removed the GOOD grips, as the one we saw had pearl, and another we heard about ,had pewter grips...those grips pictured are NOT for a "finished" gun......

The gun was engraved by Weldon Bledsoe. His mark is clearly on the gun, and the workmanship is fantastic. I bought it from a dealer in Temple Texas. He bought it from the estate sale of a billionaire eccentric oilman. The dealer told me there were many guns for sale, but that they had all been thrown in a dumpster, as the children were not gun fanatics. He bought 10 guns, some of them just the most awesome looking shotguns I have ever seen.

I just am torn on whether to shoot this gun or not...I don't sell myself selling it, but I also don't want to ruin it either. It has a gold was which looks a bit fragile on part of the gun.

Nice gun!

If it were mine, I would not shoot it. The gold wash will wear quickly. Very nice gun you have!

Clearly seen in first pic.

Shoot it? Please learn the proper sequence of loading/unloading that ol' Super.

If it were mine I'd put up a 10 foot high electric fence around your gun storage area and NEVER let anybody get near that ol' Super Blackhawk!!!!! I'd run out and find a "shooter" and play with it!

+1 and +1 again

OK, I'll bite. Was this gun made as a one-off custom, or was it part of a commissioned series or something?

As I said earlier, someone obviously scavenged the original grips and probably the rear sight - the one in the pics look to be rode hard...

I like engraved guns too, but is there provenance?

Very nice to just look at, wouldn't be the least bit interested in shooting it. NICE
RME
