Awoke this morning to see snow on the ground! Looks like maybe 1" to 2" on the ground! Roads and streets appear to be icey, not much going on except to enjoy the snow. I'm taking a snow day today!

A little later.................

Nita has wished for a day when she could look out the window and see snow falling. Well, she got it today. And with a hot cup or coffee, in my favorite mug, and oatmeal and cinnamon toast on the side, what more can a man ask for?

Teleport to a nice warm Hawaiian beach, a bottle of dark rum and a Scandinavian chick !
You asked.
Dave

Hawaiian women are beautiful too.

We had one in my high school senior class and every time I saw her my heartbeat would zoom up!

She confided in me that she'd never seen snow.

Many people enjoy watching snow fall. Many years ago, while attending a Nike radar school at Fort Bliss, it snowed. I was living off Post and while driving in for the days classes I spotted a member of the class, an Etheopian Lt. I stopped an offered him a ride. He thanked me but said he would rather walk. He had seen snow on the mountains before but this was the first time it had actually touched him.

Not too crazy about beaches. And I don't drink, and prefer my chicken Kentucky fried.

Well, we don't have snow. It's supposed to be 80°F tomorrow. The beach is a few blocks away, and I'll stick with the chick I already have.

I figure I'll BBQ and treat myself to a beer.

I agree that it’s quite pleasant to sit with a nice cup of coffee and watch a fluffy snow falling in the morning. It’s the having to be somewhere that messes it up. Add to that a bird feeder attracting cardinals and such and it’s a good way to wake up.

Fluffy snow gently falling is nice to watch, kind of calming, and makes the woods REALLY quiet.

Albino brain chiggers blowing in 30+ mph winds, and teens or below temps are not at all nice in any form!

The joke story about a southerner moving to the snow belt is a fact even for the locals. (I'll look for one)

-edit-

found one -- definitely needed a little editing. Please remember this is not far from factual.

A Southerner Moves up North

diary:

Dec 8. - It's starting to snow. The first of the season and the first I've seen in years. The wife and I took our hot buttered rums and sat by the picture window. Watching the soft flakes drift down, clinging to the trees and covering the ground. It was beautiful.

Dec 9. - We woke to a lovely blanket of crystal white snow covering the landscape. What a fantastic sight. Every tree and shrub covered with a beautiful mantle. I shoveled snow for the first time in my life and I loved it. I did both the driveway and our sidewalk. Later, the city snowplow came along and accidentally covered up our driveway with compacted snow from the street. The driver smiled and waved. I waved back and shoveled it again.

Dec 10. - It snowed an additional 6 inches last night and the temperature dropped to around 11 degrees. Several limbs on the trees and shrubs snapped due to the weight of the snow. I shoveled the driveway again. Shortly afterwards the snowplow came by and did his trick again. Much of the snow is now brownish-grey.

Dec 11. - Warmed up enough during the day to create some slush which soon became ice when the temperature dropped again. Bought snow tires for both cars. Fell on my butt in the driveway; $145 to a chiropractor, but nothing was broken. More snow and ice expected today.

Dec 12. - Still cold. Sold the wife's car and bought a 4x4 in order to get her to work. Slid into a guardrail anyway and did considerable amount of damage to the rear quarter panel. Had another 8 inched of the white stuff last night. Both vehicles covered with salt and crud. More shoveling in store for me today. That idiot snow plow driver came by twice today.

Dec 13. - Two below zero outside! More darn snow. Not a tree or shrub on our property that hasn't been damaged. Power was off most of the night. Tried to keep from freezing to death with candles and a kerosene heater, which tipped over and nearly burned the house down. I managed to put out the flames, but suffered 2nd degree burns on my hands and lost my eyelashes and eyebrows. Car slid on the ice on way to emergency room and was totaled.

Dec 14. – The horrific white stuff keeps coming down. Have to put on all the clothes I own just to get to the mailbox. If I ever catch that jerk that drives the snowplow I'll chew open his chest and rip out his heart. I think he hides around the corner and waits for me to finish shoveling and then comes down the street about 100 mph and buries our driveway again. Power still off. Toilet froze and part of the roof is starting to cave in.

Dec 15. - Six more stupid inches of snow, sleet and ice and who knows what other kind of white crud fell last night. I wounded the snowplow jerk with an ice axe but he managed to get away. Wife left me. Car won't start. I think I'm going snow blind. I can't move my toes. Haven't seen the sun in weeks. More snow predicted. Wind chill is minus 22 freezing degrees. I'm moving back to Florida.

SNOW in Tennessee; Brings back memories of long ago in Millington on the Navy Base.
Thanksgiving morning; Me, my brother and a neighbor girl are out in the yard BAREFOOT, in SHORTS having a good time; By NIGHTFALL we had two or three feet of snow !! Let me see; I was probably in the fourth grade in those days, before it got so deep, Our Dad took us up by the Marine barracks to sell the papers the supervisor had delivered to me and my brother; Those Marines were GLAD to get the papers and tipped us really well !!

After thirty six winters of shifting snow from one place to another in Alaska I really don't like the stuff at all. It was easier in the NW Arctic part of AK than in SE AK where the snow comes down deep and very, very heavy. The stuff down there is wet and will pack into ice if you look at it too hard. Even with a two cylinder blower on chains I had to use a pick to bust of the big piles of ice. Even my F250 with chains and a blade only irritated the stuff. The worst was the year the shop my float plane was in collapsed. A friend's aircraft was also in there. It took about $8500 and a month's hard work to get things airworthy again. You guys can have it.

Yes,snow was a lot more fun when I was a kid.
Mostly got sleet and ice here in N.E. Arkansas, about 40 miles north west of Bob.

The prettiest snow falling was in Poplar Bluff, Mo. Huge snowflakes. My second wife and I were on the way to Oklahoma to pick up 10 Shetland Sheep, and got caught in the snow. Stopped for the night in Poplar Bluff. Walked to a restaurant for a leisurely meal, and stare out the window. The snow in the Arctic is dry, and easily moved. At least it was in Barrow, Ak. Here in Middle Tn we have pelletized snow this AM at 20 degrees F. Just a dusting.

News here has been showing a pile-up on I-40 near Nashville. Comments are that the National Guard has been called on for assistance.

Here in Memphis the ice melted slightly yesterday then froze again last night making things a bit dicey driving today.

We got some here before Christmas this year. I was at work in down town Atlanta when it started. The weather people said none of it would stick except for maybe on some grassy areas & maybe on some roofs. I was outside during lunch & watched it melt as soon as it hit the ground. We decided to leave an hour early & left at 12:30 (We were working 5:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m). It was sticking & every one in Atlanta had decided to leave at the same time. It took forever getting home. I was hoping there was some in the yard so the kids could play in it. When I got home it was just raining. We did get some flurries the next morning (Saturday). I got our kids up so they could go run around in it & play with the little bit that stuck to the trampoline & a few areas. That was all we got. Some of the folks West of Atlanta got 10". I would have liked for the kids to get to play more but I'd just as soon not be stuck home with the power out.
