WE'VE GOT SNOW!

Woke up this morning and Memphis has snow! I measured about 4 1/2" in my back yard. Beautiful, white snow!

Unfortunately, there is a layer of ice under the snow. We had rain, then sleet, then snow, so driving is not too good.

I'm staying in, fixing spiced cider, and just looking out the window at the birds.

I was hoping for one last good snow this season. We got the same storm that hit you guys Bob. It rained all Monday night and off and on most of the morning and afternoon yesterday. When I left work it was just turning over to snow. By 10 when I was heading to bed it was coming down good and laying. Luckily I had previously scheduled today off from work. There was a good 6'' this morning when I got up and it hasn't stopped snowing yet, and it's expected to stop for another couple hours. The only thing that would make this better right now, is to be out in the woods hunting some whitetails. Nothing like the peace of sitting under an oak, while the quiet snow is coming down with a thermos of coffee.

Yeah! We got a lot of snow too here in Dallas! Schools are closed and from the news it looks like many people are not working today. At least they aren't driving anywhere.

Probably be below zero again tonite. I know, am starting to sound like a broken record...garage door froze to the ground, can't plow, due to the one day of above freezing temps and rain we had a few days ago. @$%(_)^! What ya spicing the cider with ? Here, for the next three weekends is an Ice Wine Festival. Good timing ? Banner year for ice wine as its harvested when temps below 17 degrees. It's been below 17 degrees 9 outta ten days since dec....roughly.

Now is the time that Murphy is at his best! The snow blower won't start! Just walked in from shoveling. I am 3/4 of the way to my driveway. 5+ inches and still coming down. Trying to get ahead, and then stay ahead of it.
Supposed to be in the single digits temp wise tonight. Thank the Lord I have food in the cupboard, a full tank of heating oil, and lots of books to read. I have absolutely no where to go and all week to get there.
I truly feel for the people in Tennessee and Kentucky that are being hammered. Stay home, stay inside, and be safe.

Since my last post, about 2 hours ago, we have picked up an additional 2-3 inches. Now the weather prognosticators are saying that the REAL snow is due around 4pm. I just am beyond myself in anticipation of that event. :roll:

Ha! Ha! That's how our "season" starts out up here too. After 60+ inches and weeks on end accumulations the excitement and appreciation dissipates very quickly....Glad you are enjoying...

FYI sometimes over 60 inches from the 24 inches dropped ends up in front your vehicle....how lucky can one guy be...I was sleeping and mother nature kissed me....

Here is the pile of snow next to my parking spot built by good old manual labor. Landlord will not be getting into his spare garage any time soon unless he gets a loader to move it. Picked up 8 more inches today here on Cape Cod.

We got somewhere between 10-14" of snow yesterday here in southcentral Pa, depending on where you measure. Drifted pretty good, too.

Went out and ran the snowblower, cleared off the vehicles and shoveled where the snowblower doesn't fit.

Township didn't plow the cul-de-sac that the estate is on until overnight. Got up at 3:30AM this morning for work to find a two foot high barrier, 8 feet wide of packed snow at the end of the driveway. Just gotta love the sense of humor the snow plow driver has...they never plow snow into the driveway across the cul-de-sac from mine.

Took about an hour to clear it all out...packed pretty solid.
I couldn't make it to work on time, so I called in for a vacation day. Two days off in the same week and not working the weekend...like a mini-vacation.

Looking out the window of the den, it appears the cul-de-sac and the road it connects to are ice and snow-covered. Supposed to be sunny and mid-20s today...hope the sun angle is high enough to melt some of this stuff off the roads and walkways.

Forecasts calls for a high of 50+ the middle of next week...maybe this will be the last of this foolishness for this winter

Guess we were fortunate as we only got about 8 +/- inches, again, depending where it is measured. We TRIED to stay ahead of it by shoveling a path from the house to the driveway. and then keeping it relatively clear all day. I'll call my friend, with his bobcat, and have him clear my driveway out to the street...after the snow plow has made his normal one pass on our street and filled the throat of the drive. It IS cold this morning though. As was said...better and warmer days are in the forecast and not THAT far away.

Saw a lot last week in northern NM and well south into TX coming back...two wrecked semis and a F-250 on its roof near Big Spring.

Just be thankful you are not still in Beverly Beach. Record cold last night. Single digits here, an hour north of Mayo. I am honestly getting tired of this stuff.

The lowest temp I saw was 13F. On the night of the 24th,I drove on a icy road from Mora to Black Lake,NM. It's sort of like going from nowhere to nowhere on an icy road in the low 20s. I saw only one other vehicle in that 1-hr portion of the 800-mile trip.

4 1/2".....LoL Don't even bother clearing that little of amount. I can feel for ya I guess though. Was down in Bristol for the races a handful of years ago when a snow squall came through. Dropped a couple inches in a matter of an hour. People were scrambling as though armageddon was upon them. Every vendor was selling out of sweatshirts and even the overpriced driver jackets. 100,000 people sat shivering in their vehicles in the frigid barely freezing temps. LoL Guess they knew we weren't from there by more than our accents - no jackets and perfect comfortable. Even had a snowball fight across the track with the pit crews.
Here...like Wil Terry and Lone Wolf, we've had a good old fashioned winter. Snow by the foot not inches. Has made for the best snowmobiling in years! More than once the commute home was with 4-6" of snow in the roads. Winding down soon but hopefully there's some more white wonderful coming.
