Thanks to all for your great replies in regards to my earlier topic "considering a ruger no. 1". Last night I finally pulled the trigger (no pun intended) on a new in box ruger no.1 in the 257 weatherby..... man the no. 1 in the 257 weatherby is a hard to find. From what I hear it is only available through Lipsey distributors/dealers. Anyhow it should be hear in a few days and I will keep you all informed with photos etc. i guess the wood will be a surprise to me as i really did not get to see it. All i know is the person at the place i bought it from said that the factory seal was not broken. I told him to go ahead and open it and he said the wood was the typical for ruger.... dont know if thats good or bad. :? From what i have seen on the no. 1s its just ok for the most part (i didnt say all). I'm sure it will be fine as given the fact that the 257 weatherby is not easy to nail down. if any of have have any input on the 257 weatherby i would certainly appreciate hearing about it.
Thanks again

Congrats on your 257. Check out the testfire on Gunblast:

There is no "factory seal" on Ruger No.1 boxes.
my HUGE mistake... maybe it was just a piece of scotch tape or something.....

Cabela's will put a seal on them, but none of the New No.1's I get come with any tape on the box.
I do have a couple of the new 257's left if anyone is still looking. PM me for details.

many years ago, a buddy of mine had a Weatherby Vanguard in .257 Mag.
We shot up two boxes of factory ammo and then did some 100gr BTSP Sierra handloads over Varget powder.
Talk about flat shooting, I figured from the crack they were making close to 3000fps.
Too bad the factory ammo is so pricey, sure is a hot cartridge

Checking my newest Nosler reloading guide, much faster than 3000fps, impressive. A 28 inch barrel can only be better.
