I've recently started going to these. Usually Applebee's and Golden Corral. Get there early if you can. It really get's busy. Or later may be good too.

My church is having a Veteran's Day luncheon this Saturday.

I can think of no group of people in the world who deserve a complimentary meal more than our US Veterans. Thank you all for your service to our country.

As some of you may know, it really bugs me when folks confuse the purpose between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. The local news radio had a sound bite in which the speaker did it again.

It wouldn’t be so bad but the speaker was purported to be a former USA major. His comments were made at a local university. It’s hard to chastise the young for not knowing facts when those who should know better are ignorant of the facts.

Most of those restaurants are really busy in this area because we have so many deserving vets. But I stood in chow lines too many times to do it again, free or not. So the rest of you vets enjoy your meals. *s*

It's become a sort of tradition for me to meet Mother-in-Law's man friend for the Veterans' breakfast at HyVee food store. This year one of my employees has invited me out for coffee (or lunch depending on when we can end up in the same place Monday). She doesn't have any Veterans in her immediate family and said it was from her whole family.

As a veteran I am eligible for one of these free meals, but I will not be trying to participate. I can afford to pay the bill, so I will be one less veteran to show up at a participating restaurant, leaving a seat for someone that can get a restaurant meal that they otherwise might not be able to afford. I heartily appreciate the intent of those businesses that offer this kind of tribute to our deserving veterans. Welcome home to all my fellow veterans.

Vito, I used to think the same thing. I've only participated twice in all these years, because of that. It's wrong thinking. They manage to get every one in. It's a blessing to be there and see the others our age that are still around, shaking hands and thanking them.

I'm not going to make it today. Temp's dropping and there's a snow storm on the radar. Had a long, tough day yesterday and not walking well this morning. I enjoy seeing some of the guys I only see at this meal but not worth a 100 mile drive in these conditions. Maybe we'll all survive until next year.

Here in Rockford, IL where I live there has only been one restaurant that announced it would provide a free lunch to veterans. I doubt that they will be able to handle the number of veterans that will show up. Plus we are in the midst of a significant snow storm right now. To Bear Paw Jack: I appreciate the sentiment and advice, but right now it looks like I will just stay comfortable and safe at home today. To all my fellow vets out there: my thanks to you for your service, and my wishes for all of you to be safe and strong on this, our own special day.

Just returned from the local Dennys and a 'build your own' Grand Slam. The local Golden Corral is great but you need to be there at 3:00pm if you expect to eat by 5. A mob scene wouldn't cover the human traffic there. Their front door is about 1 mile from the front gate of Aberdeen Proving Ground.

I took the wife to lunch with me to Red Robin. I want you to know, that at no time once the doors opened was there not a table available. At anytime for lunch you could walk in and immediately get a table. The lunch is a double burger and all you can eat fries.
