I was recently given a set of vertically-split rings by a gunshop-owning buddy.

The rings are missing a few of the screws. Do any of you happen to know what size screws I should buy so I can make them usable again? Where is a good place to buy them?

I guess this will start the hunt for the 'right' No. 1 to put under these rings. Are there any general guidelines on what serial number range utilized the vertically-split rings? I only have one non-prefix gun, and I think it's a 4XXX serial number - I think that's way too late.

I accused my buddy of giving me a very expensive free gift since I almost have to go out and buy a rifle to go with these. I suspect the search will be half the fun.

Thanks,

SR

I emailed ruger a couple years ago to replace slotted screws on scope rings to the newer torx style. They send them to me for free. You did not mentioned for sure they are ruger rings, I am guessing. Maybe you could get them free also.

The short and long grip frame screws that go in the single action grip to frame are same as the vertical rings screws. These rings would most likely be correct for your 4xxx No.1. August-Srptember of 1968 is pretty much the break point, in my experience.
Unless the rings are new, most of the vertical rings screws are buggered. People didn't have good screwdrivers in those days?

Come on Lee, I really needed you to tell me that I had to find a 3-digit gun to go under these. Not like I needed an excuse...
