Cock the hammer, put a pin in the hammer strut to contain the spring, pull the trigger to release the hammer, slide the lock up and push it over to one side, much cussing and fussing, it is possible to get it out. Don't lose the little black pin that will try to fall out of the bottom of the lock, it's a nail-looking thingy.
Thanks I'll try that, I tried that at first but was afraid I might damage the strut. I've got a stainless bearcat seat I want to replace the lock with. I want to replace the lock because I have a chance to pick up a set of Sambar Stag grips from an old three screw Blackhawk and I think the frame is the same as my Vaquero .44 special Sheriff's model but the lock is in the way!
Thanks Doc Fillem, I went back and tried it again and got the strut and lock out! Got the bearcat seat installed and all works fine. I did file a slight step in the frame so as the seat won't shift. I read some where on this site that you really don't have to do that because the spring pressure keeps it in place. Now lets hope the Stag grips will it my grip frame!
Glad it worked out. I changed the springs in my New Vaqueros a while back and I was too lazy to pull the grip frames. As I said, much cussing and fussing, but I did get them out!
