Saw a link this morning stating MSNBC was filming in Norfolk this morning using the "Whiskey" as a photo backdrop. Segment to air this afternoon between 2-3P.M. Plan to turn it on and turn the volume off!

She is a beauty. I visited a few years ago on a trip to the Norfolk/Hampton area. A couple months before that, I was in Wilmington NC to see the USS North Carolina.
Also saw the guns and the revolving turret of the USS Monitor being preserved in a museum in Hampton, along with some salvaged remains of the CSS Virginia. Those two made the world's wooden navies obsolete in one short fight.

Last time I was able to get to Norfolk she was a reserve ship. I was able to go on deck but not below. From what I've read she is now a museum piece. Really hope to get back there sometime. I also have seen the USS North Carolina. Very interesting ships!

Not the Wisconsin but the USS Iowa was part of our battle group on our Med. cruise. She was gorgeous, got a tour from the Marine detachment on board. Believe it or not the USS Coral Sea was built almost exactly like her (the carrier I was on). She was built like a battle wagon with almost the same armor. Here's a pic. of her during a sandstorm (yep, even on the ocean).

Great old photo.

LOL, not terribly old??? 1989.. I took this off of the flight deck of the USS Coral Sea off the coast of Egypt. Nikon FM2 that I could hardly afford but glad I did. Sure wish we would have had digital back then, I would have tons of good shots.

Was aboard her a few years ago at Nauticus in Norfolk. She was still with the Navy then, the interior spaces being used as offices and the deck for reenlistment ceremonies. My son got to play on the radio during Hamfest (he's K4KLB).
She's since been transferred to the City of Norfolk and the interior spaces are open. A beautiful ship.
