I have a mint condition Red Label from 1988 (12ga/26" with fixed mod/ic, red pad with decent wood) that a guy is wanting to swap me out of. He's offering up a mint #1 RSI .243 with red pad and decent wood as well (serial # and Ruger records dept dates it at 1990). As far as trades go, would y'all consider this to be good, bad, or about fair for both? We both have original box/manual for each.

Another quick question....., about what year did Ruger make the switch from red to black on the #1 pads?

I would say go for it. Definitely fair. The values on the used market are about the same maybe a little more on the #1. But your red label is a harder sell. Really not much collector interest and for those wanting a shooter the fixed chokes make it a hard sell. I am not certain on the pad change. But the 243 is the hardest of the RSIs to find good wood makes it even more desirable. I would be all over this.

Does the end result get you what you want? Does the trade allow you both to have what you want? Can't always look at the $$$ aspects. Look more at the satisfaction and enjoyment part.

Cant always look at the $$ but i think there is enough $ difference to favor the red label by quite a bit. Cant tell anyone what to do but i wouldnt trade without a little cash to boot...

IC and Mod is an ideal setup for birds. I do not see many Red Labels around of any kind, but see a lot of No.1's that do not seem to resell well.

I do not think I would trade.

Ahh, will probably just hang onto the Red Label a little longer. Don't really need either....., the RL hardly gets taken out of the safe since getting into the Citoris and I've managed to trim the #1s down to a handful that I want to keep - they are a tough sell around here (for what they're worth). I just love trading!
