Tornado season came early this year

Had at least 2 tornadoes within a few miles north and south of me around 5pm yesterday. Extensive damage in Columbus, 1 dead, several injured, power out.

I was on our Amatuer Radio weather net. We had tornado watches, but no touch downs. Torrential downpours! I live on a ridge, this AM the ground is firm again with a few puddles. 49 degrees F with winds gusting to 25 mph. In Murfreesboro a friends subdivision was isolated due to the entrance being flooded! Sorry to hear of the carnage in Gunny’s area. Glad you are ok Gunny!

We've had closer calls in past years. One touched down about a 1/4 mile from me and took out a couple neighbors homes. That one made a general mess with down trees on my property is all. We've got a sturdy house, so I don't worry about it much. I'd rather this than volcano's and earthquakes. :wink:

Volcanoes are pretty serious problems for sure. But I'll take a good old fashioned earthquake over a tornado any day! lol Maybe I've lived out west too long! ;)

You don't get any warning with a quake, there's no place to hide and can cause massive damage and death over a wide area. At least with twister, you normally have a few minutes warning and can get to a storm shelter. Lot of folks down here have them, either underground, above ground, or built into their house. I know one fella who's shelter doubles as his gun room/man cave. :D

Who knows, one of these days you might have beach front property. :lol:

Glad you are safe Gunny, I knew you lived close. I called you about a dealer on GunBroker. I had top bid on an OM .41 Blackhawk,,, then he refused to take my payment and ship it. I saw where this storm took out a collection of antique cars. This area of country can have a violent storm any month. Stay safe Gunny Gene!

One a.m., Enterprise Alabama February 1972. Sounded like just one more flight of helicopters returning to Ft Rucker. The next thing my roommate and I knew our trailer, with us inside, was laying on it's side. That is how much warning we had. Two more struck before dawn so we heard them but could not see anything. Power was gone so no lighting anywhere except our flashlights. NOT a fun night. :shock: Give me a good old hurricane any day. :)

Looking at the map and from what I know of the area it had to be 2 or more twisters as the damage is all over and not in a straight line.
Its about 3 miles or so from my sons old house.
Yep, Gunny, the kid moved to AL on a 100 acre farm. His wife inherited her childhood home so they beat feet.
