While in grad school, I took a course in advanced field research. We had a project to do, so I went to a friend's ranch and we (wife & I) did a short study on how grazing affected species richness, comparing two adjacent fields with different grazing schedules. Our pointer, Maggie, found the ravine where we dumped the pig guts (ranch had a good population of wild hogs and we guided on them). She rolled around in the gully and was so proud of herself.
We had a 5 hour drive back to Los Angeles!
